    Seani...that is exactly what happened...you HAVE to keep them wet. Always. Rule 1, 2, and 3. If you never run them dry, and clean them when the vapor/flavor drop off they will last a long while. I have BMF cartos that are months old, have seen a TON of refills, and are still working awesome...
