I've seen that method as well, but I'm an uncoordinated sod when it comes to fire and am apt to burn myself badly, knock over my still burning torch, thereby burning down my house.
I've heard the same complaint re: how easy they are to break (fingers crossed, knock on wood).
The coil does not make contact with the wick where it is grooved, so I may have to try the cheesecloth or mesh wrap trick.
I'm using the ceramic wick that came pre-installed in the ZAP V2.1. I believe it's the FC2000Z (it has grooves).
OK... I exaggerated. There is more flavor than unflavored PG/VG, but just barely...
I don't think anyone has built a successful coil on SS mesh the first time they have tried. I'd been doing it for over a year successfully with my Zenesis, but also recently picked up an AGA-T2 for use on my 510 mechanical mods. I don't know what it is about the T2, but I had to build and...
SS mesh can be a bit of a pain at times (oxidize, roll, oxidize, oxidize, oxidize, wrap, oxidize, poke, poke, poke, vape) but at least it works and tastes good to boot.
Have you tried wrapping the coil directly to the wick in the device? I've never had any luck with SS mesh pre-wrapping the coil on a screw or drill bit then sliding the mesh through the coil.
Sounds like you either still have a hot spot or a loop (or two) isn't in full contact with the wick. You want the wire snug to the wick, but not strangling it.
Finished my first tank on the ZAP. For the second, I decided to try a DIY mixture I've had steeping for a few days. Ceramic does not wick 50/50 PG/VG very well...
Granted, I've only placed a couple of orders with ENS, but one of those was for a Z2 Carto Hybrid along with a few other items and they didn't require a sig. Luck of the draw perhaps?
I've finally had a few moments with the ZAP. Build quality is excellent as expected. I really like the engraved ZEN~ logo compared to the laser printed logos of yester-Zens. The pre-wrapped coil only needed a couple of minor adjustments to get it glowing evenly. I've never tried ceramic, but...
Don't get me wrong... I love it out here. Beautiful views of the lake and mountains and it's very quiet. About the only time I hear sirens is when the mountain is on fire... It's far enough to be out of the way, but not so far that you feel as though you're in the middle of nowhere.
Picked up my ZAP from the post office today. I hate signature confirmation for deliveries... I get why companies use them. It's just a bit of a inconvenience as I'm never home when the mail lady is making her rounds. It's a twenty mile round trip for a PO run. Then again, for anything other...
