Get a cheap wooden cutting board. Comes in handy when torching a few. But then again I torch a dozen at a time. It really doesn't take long to cool surprisingly.
I clean them with a paper towel and qtip. But when it gets to be too much, I use a torch and they come out white as snow. BUT use a heavy paper clip and then be careful what you cool it on after. If you set on something cold it could crack.
Exactly. And to each their own. I have a couple short tubes but still like the standard tubes as its easy to grab and turn with a not so gripping tip. Personally the str5 and the str10 are my favorite. The others are comfortable but long. I use them mainly to do my work with. The nail is...
if I remember I do the same. It helps the tip. But half the time I just go straight across and lift both ends up. I vape all but a few at all vg. Its the pg I find may need a mop up. Or the 50/50s.
Sadly we just learned that the 14 year old male falcon has died. But experts are saying that the female may find a new mate or a new couple may occupy the nest. I guess we shall see.
A nice write up. Especially the pic with the amount of wick.
A couple years ago I always torched the wire first. Now I don't bother because the slight (if any) spring actually leaves a tad more space in the coil size (more wick)
And one last one with twisted wire. This wick "may" be slightly on the long side.
What I have not factored in is in the new spheroid, you may be able to avoid the twist by gently lifting the upper bell part some, assembling the tube and base, and once the wick is in place, push the bell down...
Here is a setup with a 1/16 jig (nail will do) it happens to be 8ish wraps of 28g. It works well on a 22mm mod and up. (paps and x) but its a bit much for the piccolo
Ok. Here is an older build. Similar to what I use and actually still do sometimes. In this case, it is probably more ~18-19mm long through the coil. But I push one end down to the base and lift the other up. Up wicks from fluff and bottom picks up any excess.
The outside isn't thick enough. If you were to look down on my build, the "roll" of kgd length would not pass the edge. So the length is ~15-16mm long. The same as the diameter of the spheroid. You can go 17. As you go longer, the fluff will grab the ends and twist them on themselves which...
Any kind of "cotton" will likely twist as you assemble the spheroid tube to the base. SnC yarn and silica less so but still may. So what I do is generally thread the coil with the slightly rolled Kgd and then cut it even with the edges. Curl it slightly and that reaches perfectly for my taste.
This is cool. Reminds me of the cam the university has on the falcons.
For 12 years, a pair of Peregrine Falcons have nested atop the university library. Currently the have a short summary of last years clutch and some educational pics but....

I use the STR5 when I use the beck on different attys or when I use standard sophia body on short tank. Doesn't add a lot of extra length.
Examples: SNP tank with standard sophia body (not short) I don't want to add too much length.
THEDripperPro. Add a beck and str5
I hate long tips
I haven't seen the switch. But can the delrin be lifted gently with a small precision screwdriver?
I will know tomorrow hopefully as I clean everything before using it ... New or used.
You know I did all my gpins last weekend. The smallest pin (at the 510) went missing. Not sure if it went down the sink or what but it brought back memories. and I used a strainer. Good thing I have a couple spares and I added two more spares gp my last order. :)
