    I have used Nichrome heating wire also, it does work very well, more made for the silica or ceramic wicks, but it DOES work on SS mesh wicks as well. Kanthal in the 20awg family are more than likely going to thick and a lot harder to manuveur. You could take a stab at the 36awg but warned you...
