    Record for shipping?!!

I must have been in the beta group. 'Cause there's been several times I've gotten product from V4L before I could even decide what to order!

Wow. Thank heavens. When I first opened this thread and saw it was A) you and B) got the initial few keywords in my speed-skim, I was scared to death. I was going to close my browser window and move to Antarctica. Clearest way not to hurt your feelings. You don't know how much time I've...

Grats! And as I remember it, you even took some time off about, what, six months ago?

    Batteries

No way the current chemistries are holding up to 300 charge cycles. Batteries should be charged _before_ they start blinking dead, if at all possible. Rechargable lithium chemistries hate being deep cycled. If it's just chemistry you're concerned about, you should start noticing your...

    Good start, thanks!

    Order Processing Time

Most of the time they ship my order just before I know what it was I wanted... Or maybe it just seems that way? ;)

A mistake...the horror of it all...

This thread doesn't have nearly enough foot stamping. I didn't even get any kicking, screaming, or falling to the floor out of reading it. I'm disappointed. At least it could use some cowbell.

    V4L faces

So, wait, you're saying you're NOT just some random talking hummingbird? (As soon as I got a photo of a little girl with her tongue out, I *knew* I had to come back and reply to your post... :p )

    Missing Signature

Me too - but then that might also be because I have his A record mirrored on my nameserver. ;)

    Missing Signature

It's a DNS issue. Dashiva and I are working on porting it over to my servers, and it should be more reliable then.

Why did you pick your name?

Mine was given to me in 1989/90 sometime. Combination of my middle name, my penchant for extreme sports, and the cutesy play on words, I'm sure.

    Passthrough Questions

What are the specs on the wall-wart? That's what we're trying to get to. Chiefly the current output (it'd be listed as either milliamps or amps, ma or mA or A)

    Passthrough Questions

Hard to find a wall these days without a wart or two. A "wall-wart" is any of the annoying transformers that are self-contained. I say "annoying" 'cause they generally block a bunch of sockets on a typical power strip. Any of the power supplies that don't have an AC cord, but plug straight...

Just stock straight off the shelf, it has the radio receiver/decoder in it. Couldn't find a model number - it's just a builder-grade Kenmore microwave, a few years old.

Here's Ben's original essay on the idea: Full text - Benjamin Franklin - The Journal of Paris, 1784 And then Willett's take on it that lead to the whole mess: Full text - Daylight Saving Time - William Willett's pamphlet Some studies (notably Indiana) conclude that it saves 1% energy costs...

It absolutely does. Candles are expensive. So is whale blubber. In order to preserve that energy, you want to juggle the time people rise and sleep. In the fall you want to have an extra hour for the peasants to bring the crops in. It's worth the extra whale blubber to light the way.

If you could only see my house. Errr - good thing you can't. That said: Not everything has to be connected to a network. It's not like the WWV time signal hasn't been broadcast for, what, 65+ years with a modern accuracy of 1 part in 1013 error from an atomic source? The stove and microwave...

Sure, 'cause they'll enjoy sharing a prison cell.

Ahhh, anachronisms. I managed to get all the crops in fine last year, and now I'll be using less whale-blubber in my lamps. That's a good thing, right? [shaking head] Ben Franklin called from the grave to remind us this is 2011... Heck, around my house, even resetting the clocks in an...
