My first coil I posted a few pages back was 32g @ 1.8ohms and performed the same way, although I didn't do a long test. It vaped fine when airflow was correct, and I didn't see any hot legs while dry burning.
13 second hot-leg test - 29g 0.9ohm kanthal - YouTube
Edit: why am I only seeing links these days, used to be you paste the url and the video would auto-embed. WTH?
Lol! Certainly, people have been feeding him.
An old roommate of mine rescued and raised a group of babies after their nest had been cut down. Once fully grown, two of them had no fear, would climb onto your knee and sit there while you fed them peanuts and get mad if you withheld.

Middle glows when dry, nothing glows when wet. The only time I've ever had a hot leg was on a pinched off SS wick.
Make sure the legs are the same length. The only harsh vape I got from this was due to lack of air flow, after getting my adjustments figured out I can take 4 second drags on 29g...
I did a new coil like the last one I posted with long legs, I think that was 30 or 32 gauge. I used 29 this time, less wick and a much tighter coil, it ohms out at 0.9-1.1 depending on the arm position. I'm finding that I don't need the o-ring since arm adjustments move the coil enough to dial...
Depends how low you want to go in resistance and how fat your wicks are. I sort of gave up thinking about resistance while I try different things here, my wicks are kinda fat so I was having a hard time getting below 1.5 without doing a 2/3 wrap. No biggy though, I just measured that coil at...
Also, you can turn the posts by loosening the nuts at the bottom, to line the post holes up with wherever you want the coil. None of that wrap-around crap.
I'm 100% sure that the center positive pin and the adjustable arm are. 75% sure about the tops of the posts, and the threaded part of each post looks like the same material as the center pin. The nuts look like steel, and I'm sure the deck is, too.
Try this. Make long legs and get the coil...
Water can taste metallic simply by stripping the minerals out, in it's cleanest form. So we probably can't judge by taste, we would need an MSDS for kanthal, or something.
Ya, it would be wise to leave those others alone until your sure they didn't completely discharge and aren't ruined from the short (safe person's advice would be trash them now). The best way would be to use a multimeter to check for a short after you connect the tank and top cap, before the...
That would be adding more to the equation, not to mention I've had this problem a few times simply by using an adapter. I would think my first suggestion would be good enough.
I'd be most worried about the 18650s. I have shorted those efest 350 flat tops without issue. YMMV
