I could never lung hit at 18mg. Only when I dropped the nic. However, you are just starting so you probably need the higher nic. I started at 24mg, after three years I'm down to 2mg. I direct lung hit. I used to mtl when I used higher nic.

I know with UPS that if they miss you and signature is required that the notice they leave you has a spot to sign on the back. Then you leave it for them when they deliver the next day. I don't know how USPS does it if they miss you.
