    On the basis that it's easy to swap atomizer types. You want throat hit? Plug in a 510. Flavor? 801. Etc etc etc... It lets you use a single power source with whatever atomizer you like, instead of making a mod for each.

    You are operating under a misconception - since there is no movement to stress the connection, wired connections are fine.

    You could have voltage sag due to wiring, as well - use the heaviest guage wire you can get away with. I have a usb-based passthrough that runs off an a/c adapter and have to set the wallwart at 6v to get 5v under load.

    Your variance in voltage is probably due to a power supply that is being overdriven. What are you using to power your p/t, and what atomizer do you use with it?

    I wouldn't say it's useless, I will say that your power supply is probably not going to last very long (in comparison to, say, a 2a supply) if you're hitting a 510 at 5v off of it.

    AA boxes won't work (14mm). A box for a "C" cell would be too deep ("C" cell is 26mm, if I recall correctly). Any sort of box pre-made for 18650 would be the Holy Grail for a lot of modders.

    Yup, the power jack solution works too...just have to have room in the box for it. If you're making a direct-wire PT (no battery), shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!

    Most folks aren't going to have the test rigs to get 'in the middle' to check amperage draw. Read the voltage and the resistance and you can calculate amperage. Volts divided by resistance.
