I have got some manual batteries very hot doing dry burns & only killed one. So hot does not necessarily mean ruined.
Dry out & let dry. Is it manual or auto battery?
2 different issues. The wall USB adapter or car USB adapter capacity (has to be equal or higher rating than charger) & charger rate has to be equal or lower than OEM supplied charger.
My eGo 650 batts. are making over 1 yr. old. One from 1st kit, Janty eGo, 1 year 8 mos. later is still running.
There is the possibility some batts are lesser quality, which has been mentioned.
Elite 808 is a 300mA charger so you can use an e-cig charger 300mA or less. I have been charging a KR808 Battery for over a year w/ 510 charger & adapter.
The draw can be adjusted on the C by turning the atty to change the alignment of the channels on the atty to the ones on sides of the tank. Atty holder on first, align atty & then put cone on.
You might like SR attys better.
No problems w/ eGo-C here.

The best way is probably something like blow 'em out & rinse out w/ hot water.
I am w/ Huffelpuff, you didn't consider if they work well together. Strong "flavors like menthol or strong cinnamon" even work together & the changeover is short even in that case so I just switch flavors.

That really depends on the user. For a start, figure about a week to a month. Some say their attys last for months & others say they are natural born atty killers!
Note also that you can make your own e-liquid which many do & cost is low.
I've had the eGo-T type A for over 6 mo. Works great, you should both like it. If he wants more just get some LR attys. The eGo batteries last- 2 of mine are over a yr. old. I pre-punch the tank opening.
The attys or cartos need replacing regularly on all.
The 901-T tanks are easy to fill. You can remove the soft end cap to fill.
I use 4 ml. glass bottle w/ dropper to fill from bottom tank hole. Perfumers Apprentice - 4ml Glass bottles w/caps & droppers

Some use Frontier Vanilla avail. at Whole Foods.
Flavoring
You may be able to get flavorings locally like LorAnn which can be used to make e-liquid or change the flavor some.
