    I only get a strange taste if I use too much cotton. The trick is not stuffing the coil with too much cotton. If I put it in where it fills the coil, but still VERY EASILY, pulls back and forth through the coil, then I get no strange taste.

    If the black turned grey your 1311 was sprayed too heavy. It's supposed to be multiple light coats of 1311. You will need to start from scratch. Look at the bright side, you can now paint it whatever color you want.

    I'm going to answer since D_J is a little under the weather today. A stainless core adds stability and keeps the juice away from the wood, even though J seals the wood with CA. He can use a SS core with a lip showing, at the bottom of the drip tip, or with no SS lip showing.

    A thorough cleaning of all threading, spring, & positive contact with a little alcohol should do the trick. No-Ox on the threads, after cleaning will help. That and a new spring are about all that can be done on the user end. Also clean the batteries themselves with a little alcohol as well...
