I started with 24mg when I first stopped smoking and the nic level was good for a while, but I had similar problems. I found that Dekang was too high of VG content. It makes a very dense vapor that's rough on a newbie's lungs. Also I had to use the mouth to lung technique for the first few weeks...
A few people have mentioned menthol over powering vaper's tongue, but I haven't found one yet that I could stand. My alternative us sinnamon from NicQuid. It isn't overly sweet like some other cinnamon liquids
