    Those batteries don't say protected on them because they don't need to. LiFePO4 uses a safe chemistry that will not explode if they short circuit. They are safe to use.

    I don't know what it is. The grommet is an insulator to prevent shorting out. What's on the other end? I don't think SLB makes 510's.

    I've been using those for 4 months with no problems at all. I have 8 of them in rotation in 2 Chucks and use them all day every day.

    When you test the battery do you have the meter set with the selector wheel on the second "V" above the "Off" on the left? It sounds like you have it set to read Ohms.
