Soon you'll love 38g & 40g. I've been working on my 44g interlocks. Inconsistent to say the least to start out with but I got a 44/46g interlock 2 coils 5w/2.5mm ID. They ain't the prettiest but they are close enough for now.

Yes 316L gets red after use. It actually looks really cool when it's next to blue stacks of n80 ribbon. That wicked up pic of my 4 core stainless parallel to 3 core N80 aliens shows how they get red overnight. It's just the color they turn.
I most likely posted those already but 4x28/36gSS para...
Order up some .3KA1r. Use 28g frames with the .3r. Also these fraliens are coming out super dense because it's a 34g wrap. If you try switching up to 36g (gotta give it another shot sometime), your coils will have less weight and mass to them just because of the wrap. You could always make some...
I make juice but I always end up buying flavors I love but cannot make on my own haha.
And I use 28g frames on pretty much everything. 26g ohms out too low with packs of ribbon inside. Like a 28/8ply .3 comes out to about .07-.08 (n80 or SS frames, n80r). Also I find that 26g more than not...
Here's my scale.
28/6ply: 26g decore
28/8ply: 25g decore
28/10ply: 24g decore
26/4ply: 26g decore
26/6ply: 26g or 25g decore since it's not much bigger there's a little leeway
26/8ply: 24g decore
Ive used a 22g decore maybe once and it was for 28/14ply. And 8ply was wrapped up in 46g with...
Most of the time I get lazy and just eye it out. Other times I'll do short lengths of staggers at a time (6-8" segments) cutting the wire off the spools & pulling one wire off because it only ends up being around 4-5ft of wrap per each strand of the paraclap.
You could try out a weighted loop &...
I'm glad you got the 3 core alien down! They look great brov. 4 core aliens are a bit harder to keep flat & parallel throughout the wrap.
And Slip I'm with you I'd like to see these store premade fused claps or whatever he's talking about.
Cloud Mutilator - how do I say this, if you don't...
Yes in my opinion most of my intricate builds perform better than basic builds.
But then ask yourself what's basic and what's as you say - eccentric?
I don't think your "go to" coil is like the second picture in that order unless your "go to" build is a groove fused staggerton.
Some of my...
Didn't I suggest the 26/4x.4 framed staple because it's easier to keep together than a 3 core? Staggerton is anything with a central spaced staple like such:
They don't need the extra ribbon on the sides, just the central staggered staple in the middle.

With partially exposed vertical ribbon cores and stagger fused frames. SSFC's and staggertons with plies of ribbon outside the core are my most efficient coils. I think it's because the binding wrap is spaced over the cores creating a cross hatched pattern that allows for a quicker ramp time and...
I too use a corded drill on its side with swivels. I hold the spool in my hand and let her rip at max speed. If I get the decore backing up on itself I'll just undo it and pull it straight/try to get it to flatten out then keep going with the decore.
You want the decore to be consistent - like...
What do you mean? Like if you have an overlap and you undo & redo it? Itll come out inconsistent to say the least.
But if you're just talking about the decore overlapping for the initial clapton just back it out pull it straight with some tension and keep going
Instead of holding the wrap...
Be careful throwing it over your shoulder, it gets snagged on fabric easily too. The decore, not just the end. Also, why not go slow?
My buddy makes aliens with maximum stretch. I don't like to do it that way because the piece of decore goes from 18" to like 12 feet. So I use tension to wrap...
Nice build!
I work through the same problems with aliens as you do. Wire snagging on carpet. It gets super annoying. Definitely use some 34g if you think it'll be easier, & try using about 7-8" of decore to start out with. A shorter length may be easier to get down at first.
Another thing you...
Not a hard build but a clean build. 4x 28g/36gSS para 3x30g/40gN80. Colors will be posted in coilporn thread.
I actually have a working wick shot :)

Already went 30/40gN80. The 32g 3 core had a 40gSS wrap. Coloring came out quite nicely. May have to snap some wicked up stacks.

Okay so I'm having a bit of a problem deciding on a parallel. I have some 4 core 28/36gSS coils made up and I wanna throw either a 3 core 32/40 or 30/40g parallel but can't decide which. Suggestions?

Aw man I'm not allowed? You're killin me smalls. I actually did a search to see when the word fralien was used in the coilporn thread. It was used a couple times before me, by people who weren't me, to describe a framed staple alien.
And of course he knows the best words and has the best words...
I know how messed up a decored Clapton can get. I also don't stretch mine out so far & hold them about a foot away from the drill. The worst is when the end or a section of it gets caught in the carpet and pulls too much tension and flattens out the wrap.
When I first went up from 34g-36g alien...
