    You can try ebay...just search for "kanthal wire" and "silica wick" and you should get some hits. ETA: A search for silica fiber also works for spools of silica...

    With all the choices that are available in today's market, it can become overwhelming very quickly! For a total newbie, I would suggest an Ego-type battery (highly recommend the Ego Twist battery~variable voltage, but I haven't seen it available in a 'kit') paired with an Ego Vision (2ohm)...
