    I can't remember for sure, but did you say you were using just SS mesh in the spike part? If so, perhaps you need more mass (a tighter wrap of more mesh), or even to go back to having the wick in there too?

    This was happening for me too quite a bit. Major improvement achieved by taking out the very top insert. Just stick a pin in the top hole of the cart, and it comes out quite easily.
