    That looked like it may be cement backer board used mostly under tile...If that's the case and there is no plywood underneath the backer you'll have to attach the plywood with glue instead of screws...No biggie...You'll need to measure and cut a couple of stiff knees to keep the plywood pressed...

    I'd cut plywood and screw it in from underneath....I'd make a pattern from paper and just cut out where the pipe goes through....then a little bit of that spray foam to seal everything up....Little duct tape where you can't get plywood will support the foam until it dries.... MFS came...

    Preparation for the brick patio will ease brick installation...Determine height desired....Frame edge with 2X4s with top at desired finished height...Fill with mortar sand and use 2X4 frame to screed and level sand...then saturate sand with water as this will pack it solid....add sand as needed...
