I am sure there's plenty of places in the U.S. that can and do manufacture all of these alloys as wire. Problem is getting them to sell it in anything smaller than a semi-truck load. -

316 stainless has a low TCR, which means it isn't going to be as accurate and smooth in sensing temperature. However, the DNA does a better job of it than most any other mod and you can make it work pretty well. Typically with TC, you want a higher resistance -- as high as you can get inside... -

430 SS is a grade without nickel in it. 304/316/317 all have around 8% nickel in them. 430 has a higher TCR, which means it's more sensitive to temperature fluctuations and better for TC mods. However, the lack of nickel, means it is less corrosion resistant. Now the question is does this... -

If you leave your power to, say 200w, or some number that is obviously more than needed, and if you just let the device regulate the power down to maintain your temp, then sure. That works. But, from a physics perspective, power determines vapor, not temperature.
