    set the multimeter to the resistance setting positive lead goes to center post of atty negative lead goes to threads of atty you should get a resistance of 2.5 ohms or so. If it says open (won't display a value), the atty is dead. If it says 0, the atty is short, which could POSSIBLY be repaired.

    not really necessary, there are many different cartomizers available in 510 threads, both empty (fill it with whatever juice you want) and prefilled.
