    Build your own Darwin?

I've been tossing this idea around for quite a while now myself. I'll eventually get around to it, but I'm sure it won't be pretty. I prefer functionality to form any day of the week. I was actually thinking about keeping the cartos internal, with one mouthpiece coming out of the mod. Would...

    dual LM317 VV

Great! Then the regulators are adequately balanced! Are you using heat sinks?

    dual LM317 VV

Agreed. You'd have to be putting 66%+ of the current through 1 regulator, at 5v with a dual coil carto, to see current limit, assuming minimum rated specs. With a standard atty/carto, you have nothing to worry about.

    expensive mods

Some people like pretty things. With the exception of the "smart" mods, you can get the same function for far less money with a little know-how, granted, it will probably not have the same build quality or aesthetics a retail mod would have. The smart mods can also be made on the cheap, but...

Those who don't want to drip

I carry a 5v otterbox mod, spare set of 14500's, "shore power" cable (to connect to dc power supplies at work when I'm at my test bench) and a bottle of juice with me..... Guess I need inpatient care :-P

    dual LM317 VV

Theoretically, it should double the available current. However, it's difficult to evenly balance both regulators so they are sharing the load evenly (which is ideal) due to manufacturing tolerances.

Those who don't want to drip

Lol it certainly was. Someone must've had a case of the Monday's :-P Did I say PG? If so, I meant VG. It's more of a problem for cartos that utilize the wrapped cloth type filler (slb's) than polyfill.

    dual LM317 VV

From what I remember, the lm317 is rated to 1.5 amps as long as the voltage differential is less than 10 volts. I've successfully used 1 lm317 with a heat sink for 5v operation. I did toss around building a dual reg model, but was told it wasn't a worthwhile project from an engineer. Either...

    Build your own Darwin?

Yep, looking at one right now, the units I test/tune/repair utilize them. Slew rate is 3v/uS, doesn't mention sampling rate. I'm sure it is fast enough to handle the job, twas just a thought, and I'm sure the engineer(s) involved had that same thought, if a lowly technician like myself thought...

Those who don't want to drip

Bad day at the office? After a few days with the dual coils, I can say that I enjoy them more than standard coils if, and only if, they are properly powered. My standard 14650's do not allow enough current flow to power the dual coils, causing voltage to be pulled down significantly from...

How do you charge an e-cig without electricity?

Windmill powered DC generator using motor from either my cordless drill, treadmill or circular saw. Spun manually, the motor will produce electricity. I'll still have creature comforts when shtf.

    let's settle this !!

Have you tried dry burning to clean the gunk off the coil? I do this weekly with the atomizers I drip with.

    let's settle this !!

same exact experience here. Tried many, many different carto's and spent tons of money only to return to the first carto i ever used: a standard boge.

    Build your own Darwin?

Hmm, since resistance increases with temperature, is the sampling rate of the Darwin board fast enough to compensate?

Need help from a modders to help me win a bet!!

you most definitely can. soldering is real simple. How and WHY to Solder Correctly - YouTube I second jmanning's recommendation. Minimal soldering and assembly required. It can be done for less money, but it's increasingly complicated. With the regulator Jmanning recommended, you just need to...

Gotta love technical jobs. Nice having access to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of electronic test equipment, isn't it? It's where I do a majority of my modding.

    Duals and triples are grose!!!

A dual coil carto has 2 3 ohm coils in parallel, so although TOTAL power is 17 watts, each coil is only at 8.x watts. I have been an avid carto user from the get-go. I've noticed the "burnt" filler, and would like to add my opinion. I hypothesize that 90% of all "scorching" is from molecules...
