i'd say if you run a lot of crazy low subohm stuff go mechanical. if you float closer to the 1ohm mark go regulated. finding a good mechanical squonker that's not constantly arcing & dirtying the contacts is a whole other subject.... (constantly cleaning contacts for good performance)

I have a couple like that, mainly from dropping them in head first on mods that positive side is down hitting the little button contact in the base. I guess the weight of the battery is enough to dent whatever metal makes up the positive contact of the battery. Lesson learned.... don't "drop"...
