Yes, keep it simple. It seems very difficult at first even with a simple coil. Just check and recheck everything before you but the power to it!

I made a steady progression from ego batteries up, each step up was a major improvement. It takes a while to find you sweet spot. Mine is also a REO, but I wasn't comfortable with a mechanical mod until I'd read a ton here.
