Panasonic ncr18650pd is about the best you can get for a vv/vw device. Make sure to buy the unprotected ones. Protected batteries are actually more unsafe than unprotected in most situations. AW IMR is also a good choice, just with those Panasonics you get a lot more MAH, which is good for a vv/vw.

I'd recommend buying an iTaste SVD instead of a Vamo, and get AW imr batteries, or Panasonic ncr18650PD from RTD vapor. Trustfire batteries suck, and the ITaste SVD is made way better than a vamo. Mine broke within a week simply from falling over on my desk, it didn't even fall off.

No, its not a good idea at all. If you're learning to build coils, you're gonna get shorts, and if you get a short on a 14500 with an RBA is game over battery. Better to learn to make coils with a vv/vw device since it has some protection, such as a vamo, tesla, evic, SVD, or one of those types.

Why do you need to fire up a .7 coil on a vamo anyway? Wrap a 1.8 coil and crank her to 6 volts.

Yeah you gotta be careful as well that your top coil doesn't tighten too much onto your wick when you tighten down the screw on the positive post, depending on which atty you're using :)
