I think it uses lesser parts and less-complicated mechanism. If I'm not mistaken, it adapts the concept like Esterigon's connector where the inside spring touches directly to the bottom cap. Which means, once you unscrew the axis you should see the spring directly. (Just my guess since Imeo...

Agree on the area without wicks, and with wrongly setup can lead to hot spots too.
