Which is better for batteries or does it matter? I like the fast charge but i read something about a trickle charge and can't remember what it means.

I have some batterys that are about a year old and are only charging up to 4.15 instead of 4.2 but they still work ok. So when do i need to retire them? They are 14500 batteries in case that matters.
