Yes and no. It's all about finding & fine tuning your sweet spot. I found the build I like, just trying to find the right wire to do it with. Or maybe your sweet spot is the quick & simple microcoil. That's for you to decide, but don't be afraid to experiment ^_^

I would worry since it's only on one of the coils... If that's the case, there's a hot spot. Have the topcap off and fire it while blowing on it for ~ 10 seconds and see if that part starts to glow... If so, your wick isn't right in that coil :P (Probably need to use less)

For actual wide bore tips (not the regular wide bore tips you can buy that funnel into your regular drip tip hole, I mean RDA's with build in wide bore tips or chuff caps) just straight in... Convenient too, since the MX + Dark Horse can both take 1 full eyedropper squeeze :P For other attys...
