Vape what u like. I'm also vaping high VG juice.

I'm not on a temp control device. And it depends on build. And drip tip. On a mech I was getting great flavor with a parallel 26ga around .3 ohms. On a regulated anywhere from a .3 to .6 ohm in the 50w to 70w range.

For the vertical wick. U can have the top. Drop over back down to the deck. Or u can cut it about the coil. For vertical wicks I personally like to cut it about the coil. With a piece of wick across the top leg. To the positive nut. I ended up making the wick a lil longer in this build.

As short as possible. It doesn't need to go to the corner. To wick the bottom dry. The wick should go straight down from the side of the coil. Once it touches the deck. That should be the end of the wick.

For the horizontal both sides should come down. Just enough to touch the deck. U don't need cotton on the whole bottom surface. That wastes juice. Because you won't be able to vape it all. Also it wicks better with less cotton outside the coil.

As far as inexpensive juices. I'm loving ITC vapes and Mech Sauce. If u like Deadly Sin. U should check out Pope Juices PKT. Its a rice krispy treat. Its not the same. But price wise. I think it can make a good substitute.

26ga kanthal. Claptoned with 28gA. .51 ohms. On a Veritas.

Check out the veritas thread here also. They have builds in it. And don't be afraid to try a veriticle single coil. I find it works better for me than the dual veritcle coil build. Just make sure u pit the coil right in front of the air hole. And flavor should be good.

I was the same way. I wish I had ordered a 120 or 240 to start with now. 15ml isn't enough.

Say the Quasar RDA. It has great flavor. Veritas would be my 2nd recommendation. The Veritas would be 2nd only because. Its your first. Some find it difficult to build on. But it is easy once u figure it out. And it doesn't leak.
