I agree with Baditude . If they didn't charge independently then one battery of the two batteries could have a higher ending voltage. Try charging two batteries each with a different precharge voltages and you will notice that the post-charged batteries will have the same voltage.

I have been using them for six months and they work as well as any other battery that I have tried. You can buy them for under $10 each.

I try to change and recharge the batteries at 4.0 volts for safety and longevity. Having a meter attached to my Reo is easier than removing them and checking them with a multi-meter.

Good point Nerak. The height of the NCR batteries are only 65.2 mm and are about the same length as the IMR AWs'. The positive terminal is flat and without a nipple. The AW P18650 3100mAh are a lot longer and after conferring with Rob I quit using them because they compressed the spring way...
