Altria letter to FDA endorses deeming and other regs for e-cigs, cigars and OTP to increase Altria's sales at expense of competitors

A concise analysis of Altria's e-cig business future can be found here. I am pretty sure they know what they're doing. Small companies might really be in danger.

Esolid, the gel/paste eliquid concentrate is back again

Hey, people - maybe it would be easier to use some toothpaste mixed with shoe polish. Sounds weird? For me not more weird than inhaling a mixture containing pancreatin, carboxymethylcellulose and hyaluronic acid. But - as I used to say - everyone is of legal age and can choose their own poison.

EU EU ENVI committee 'workshop' on e-cigarettes - May 7th

Michael: your presentation at the workshop was excellent! Plain and simple, pointing out the most important issues. Congratulations.

EU EU ENVI committee 'workshop' on e-cigarettes - May 7th

Right SmokeyJoe - this WAS very offensive. Such a behaviour could hardly be tolerated in primary school, but absolutely not at this level. You certainly know what should be said after "but". "It's not science, but we do not have any other arguments, so we will use anything that supports our...

    Water in Lungs from Vaping?

I guess it's a typical urban legend, alas spreading like a virus. Here in Poland now and then people ask about water in lungs. Some of them heard awful stories about several people suffering from water in lungs and as a result being treated in hospitals. But when you ask about the source, the...

    Shelf Life on Juices?

I just quoted your quotation of Don. Doesn't really matter. I don't agree with those statements, and that's all. Did Don perform any microbiological analyses? Anyway - tell me - putting the container in the fridge results in bacteria formation? Condensation? What stuff condenses there? The...

    Shelf Life on Juices?

Sounds a bit strange. "Condensation equals bacteria"? If the liquid is stored in a sealed container then where do those bacteria come from? Bacteria aren't born out of nowhere. By the way - PG is bacteriostatic, nicotine just kills them.

EU EU to ban e-liquid sales ?

Of course not. Zero nic liquids would not be affected by this directive. But most vapers (at least the beginners) seek nicotine solutions.

EU EU to ban e-liquid sales ?

Very nice and clear blog entry, SmokeyJoe! You're absolutely right about the pattern - this might be just a beginning.

EU EU to ban e-liquid sales ?

Situation in EU is getting worse, I'm afraid. According to the latest news from European Parliament, the new directive will effectively ban all liquids, not only those containing >4 mg/ml, as was suggested earlier - see Amendment 7 (pp. 8-9). This includes also cross-border sales (including...

Looks like Nicorette is trying to play catch up.

I'd even go further - they're Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation Systems, but the abbreviation of that is not widely approved.

    Nicotine causes lung cancer....?

Markfm: you're absolutely right. Many vapers just forget the simple thing - we are still addicts. Using e-cigs is an addiction, although (I always add - probably) less harmful than smoking. Therefore I frequently write in my blog - e-cigs are not "healthier alternative", they're just less...

    Nicotine causes lung cancer....?

This probably explains why rats rarely use e-cigs.

    Nicotine causes lung cancer....?

The doctor was just following a simple scheme: - cigarettes cause cancer - cigarettes contain nicotine ergo nicotine causes cancer. A friend of mine had switched from analogs to e-cig. The following week his car was hit by a truck. Conclusion (following the above path): switching from...

American Cancer Society exec recommends science-based approach to regulating e-cigs

Are you sure it's anecdotal? Let's face the solid scientific facts (coming from FDA data): Suicidal Behavior and Depression in Smoking Cessation Treatments As far as I know there are no such data on e-cig users showing suicidal behavior (unless someone runs out of liquid in the middle of the...

All these juices crack polycarb tanks. So why buy it!

Syringes are usually made of polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE). Those plastics are the most suitable for our purposes.

How toxic is e-liquid if ingested?

Very wise words zoiDman. Being a professional chemist I wouldn't change a single word in your message. We have to be very careful as far as kids and pets are concerned. Any work with higher concentrations (>50 mg/ml) should also be careful. It's much better to stay alive - the world is still...
