When using a drip tip on a cartomizer do you leave the poly in or pull it out ?? :(

Figured this would be a good question for my first post. Recently quit smoking Two weeks ago, really enjoy vaping and ordered a buzz from notcigs. My question being how long should i charge the batts before I use them ?? I have heard 8 hours on normal e-cig batteries and wonder if this is true...
