Another possibility for the M1A1 leaks is hairline cracks at the fill hole or a worn plastic screw. Both of my tanks now have cracks - one developed leaks, and one didn't. As for the one leaking because of a worn screw, I changed out one of the plastic screws for a s.s. one and that solved...

I got ambitious one day and removed my top and bottom caps and buffed them on a buffing wheel attached to a bench grinder. After I was happy with the shine, I sprayed a bunch of coats of clear lacquer to protect them. It's been at least three months and they still look the same as day one...
