The list of abrasives would be great! I would be greatful for any advise you have. Reducing the time they take to make would be great if it is possible. Here is how I made the last one. While turning I keep the tip half submerged in water. On the harder stone I used a flex shaft dremel with a...

Thanks! Working with the stone takes a lot of time, but I really like the results. I thought about keeping the tip, but I would be afraid to use it because I break tips. I added it and the lapis tip to the bag for the DV staff. The hardness of the stone and the finish affect the time required...

I finished polishing this morning and parted off the tip. This tip took 18-20 hours to create. About half of this time was spent repeating steps that I did not do correctly the first time.

Thats to bad that FT didn't polish the tips and sent them out rough. The trustone website is correct, a wood lathe and tools are not designed for cutting stone. Trustone has stone dust mixed with resin or acrylic which allows standard tools to cut it. No doubt I am abusing my wood lathe and...

Thanks everyone :) So far I am getting way with turning hard stone and have only had issues with stone that was to soft. Turning soft stone on a wood lathe like alabaster is pretty common. They use tool steel and carbide scrapers to turn with. Turning hard stone on a lathe is rare. The tool...

Tortoise is moving a bit fast for this tip :) Today I received a delivery. With it I was able to remove the tool marks and make the surface smooth. I can't wait to see it with a polish.

Thanks Yes it takes a long time turn one down. I am sure the more I learn the faster I will get, but they will always take more time. Here is how I left it last weekend. It is dry in the picture. The rest of my supplies to finish it should arrive on Friday.

I can't wait to see the lapis either. I hope it looks as nice in person. Yes the rubies are inside the other rock. I am not sure how it was all formed, I am still a newbie. Here is how the petrified wood is coming along. At this stage there is a little bit more turning to finish. Next it will...

Thanks :) The fuchsite is a soft rock that has small rubies inside. The fuchsite that the tip is made from is soft enough you can scratch if with your finger nail if you try really hard. I got new abrasives from the rock shop. Once I get the petrified wood cut down I will see how they work. I...

The petrified wood is starting to take shape on the lathe. In the last picture I have about 4 hours into it. With a mohs hardness of 7 it cuts really slow.

Turned from ruby in fuchsite. The tip took 4-5 hours to create. The fuchsite is a relatively soft rock and cuts easy. The red and blue parts of the stone are ruby which is much harder. Keeping the tip round was a challenge because it wanted to cut the softer material and leave the harder...

Its a interesting material but durable isn't its thing. I can actually scratch it with my fingernail.

The softer stone on the right is very fragile and I think it may be soap stone. It was hard to turn without breaking off little pieces and broke durning polishing. The one on the left turned just fine.

The Uwell Rafale-x tank looks like it has a interesting deck to build on with lots of coil options. So far I have just tried single coild builds. It doesn't look like it will fit my tips though. I have read good things about Uwell's Crown tank but haven't had a chance to try it yet. I got a...
