Well, at least you didn't come out with an appendage attached to your forehead.

Oh that reminds me of a great joke I heard a while back :D

Joe was having massive migraines for a whole week and finally decided to visit his doctor and have it checked out. He goes to the doc's office and explaines his problem

Joe - Doc it's been a week now I have these massive migraines, they're killing me doc you gotta do something to help me
Doc - Well ok Joe I'll tell you what we'll run some tests and a CT scan and we'll get you sorted out, don't you worry.

So after Joe does all the test the doctor tells him to come back in 2 days when he has all the results. So Joe comes back to the doc's office after 2 days.

Joe - Doc please tell me you figured out what's wrong with me because these migraines are killing me.
Doc - Ok Joe please sit down because I got some good news and I got some bad news for you…….

Doc - Joe the good news is that you pretty much made medical history because what you have has never been seen before.
Joe - WHAT !!!! What's wrong with me doc am I dying????
Doc - No no Joe, it's not terminal…….. I don't know how to put this but you have a penis growing from your forehead and that's the reason you're having these migraines.

Joe - What are you talking about doc? You're sayin' I have a penis coming out of my forehead?
Doc - I'm afraid so Joe, an exact copy of your penis is growing from your forehead
Joe - Doc you mean to say that every morning I wake up and brush my teeth I'll see a 7 inch penis on my forehead in the mirror???
Doc - No don't worry, I seriously doubt you'll be able to see it because your balls will be in your eyes.

Happy Vaperversary Rob!

And congratulations on a beautiful, stunning present to yourself. :)

This does seem to be an exceptional run. I may be a little bias too but that wood whisperin bee has been putting an exceptionally nice polish on the last few runs. :)

Thanks @unsure! Gil I'll be a bit nervous to use it when it arrives because I'm not good at reading manuals and I got a manual and a video on how to drive it today!

don't worry, Rob. Worst thing you can do is vape it from the wrong end.

. . . and you'll have a clue about that when the steam is poofing out of your caboose.

it's been an arduous journey, this CA finish. As far as I know, I'd been the only person who applies CA as a finish to anything other than pens and pool-cues (i.e. not spinning on a lathe, where application and sanding are much easier . . . . I'm dropping it like varnish, to an ellipsoid shape). There may be others out there; but there's zero shared knowledge about it . . . only about pens on mini-lathes. I was thinking I'd just about mastered it a while back, when I ran into some big-time problems with inconsistent batches of CA. I was having all kinds of mysterious problems, and I looked at every other possible cause before ascribing it to issues with the product itself varying from bottle to bottle (i.e. humidity, applicators, technique, build thickness, cure time, storage, yada). I finally confirmed that it was product inconsistency or contamination (from factory) when I had two diff. batch/lot#s in the shop (one good, one bad) and could do multiple applications with each. (which I had the nads to do as I'd already figured out how to climb back out of the problematic results)

So, right when I should have been establishing the final refinements to my technique, I was struggling with major mysterious problems. I've since tried a bunch of different brands of glue, and have settled in on a couple of different ones, each with it's own qualities (hardness, viscosity, flow, set-up time . . . . .. like 8 seconds VS 5 seconds, reactivity to various dyes and tannins). And I think I've finally had the opportunity to focus on choreographing best practice for best results rather than stumbling over two left feet and still trying to make it look good.

so, yeah, thanks for noticing, Pups.

even "plug and play" entails knowing which hole to plug it in, G. It's totally straightforward to set up, it's just that I've taken a couple of axiomatic elements of how current runs in a mod and turned them on their ear. So, best to get a sense of the goal before running the play.

I watched the video today, and it looks much easier than the book would have you think (that thing is huge).

If you don't get it figured out, just contact the bee. He'll set you straight. [emoji2]

Well I can certainly attest to the fact that establishing a perfect CA finish on a mod is no feat for the faint hearted. Perhaps the only positive aspect of finishing in CA is the fact that mistakes can be fairly easily corrected. Same applies to possible finish damage. Considering how much more difficult it is to finish a mod in CA over other more "conventional" finishes it's pretty understandable why hardly any woodworkers opt to consider the can-o-worms called CA finish.
Is it worth the hassle? I would certainly say so since it's probably the most durable long-lasting and frankly stunning finish.
The only other group of woodworkers who use CA finish which I'm aware of (without lathe turning that is) are knife handle makers as well as custom wooden slingshot makers. It certainly is an art form in itself which requires serious skills.

yeah, the difficulty in making repairs or tweaking flaws is avoiding burning thru the finish adjacent to the fix. At that point, it's usually a full recoat and refinish.
