I collapsed a spring on a REO once. (man . . . those were the days, and that was the
mod)
Certainly not a big deal to replace that.
Only when we started pushing the amperage did it seem to be getting in the way.
I think half the reason my first design had a fuse was because of the reaction I got in the REO forum when I figured out a way to give that spring a little help in flowing the current . ..
because (details, details) I wasn't "helping" the spring . . . . I was circumventing it . . . I guess
So, then, that led to this type of an affair . . .
and then it was pretty much settled that most bottom-feeder types were (of course, at the time, REO types) much more comfortable with fusing than no-thing. And so, had to have a fuse in the OliveR, I figured.
