For a new brass firing pin. If USPS is accurate (which it usually is), the new guy will be here tomorrow. I'll post pics once he's all modded up and running.

I'm currently using 0.010. I like it, but I know some people use 0.012 and I want to know why. I'm assuming it has to do with "springiness," but I could be wrong. I have both made up, so I'm just gonna check this thread before I go ahead and install one.

One thing worth noting: I intend on using flat tops.

Thanks in advance. See you all tomorrow.

I looked through the threads before doing mine last weekend and based on the information I could find, you could use either one. Or depending on how many mods you intend to mod you could use both, getting 4 pins out of each feeler.

For my first one I used the .012. I also rolled the tip for use with flat tops. I haven't tried the .010 but I can tell you the .012 works great and it hits hard, even driving my dual 12 wrap Nichrome setup on my cyclone.

I might also note that I had to clip a corner off one side of the rolled tip in order to clear the Delran insert. If I had to do it again I would clip the corner off before rolling it. I did a pretty small roll and found that I have just enough clearance to get away with using both button tops and flat tops. I just did one small roll - it only exceeded the dip (extention downward after the angle) compared to the stock pin by .001or2 thousandths and was the same exact length. Sorry, I don't have picks to post and its late. Maybe first thing tomorrow if I have time.

Good luck.

Yes, I'm using 0.010 in my current Reo. It is cut to size. I realize my first post was a bit ambiguous. My second Reo will be here tomorrow, and I want some opinions before installing the pin to avoid having to remove the delrin insert an excessive number of times and stripping the aluminum threading. How firm is the button-press with the 0.012, in your experience? Also, about how far down should the contact come from the tip of the pin for use with flat tops? Right now, my rolls come down about 1/4".

Best I can do is a picture:
FirePin.JPG

You see the slight bend in the pin about midpoint back? It started out straight and ended up with a slight bend after use.

The throw on the button is noticeably stiffer than stock. Its not a soft spring, its fairly stiff but it springs back nice and solid all that way back up the throw.

I compared mine to a new pin. Like I said it only (very) slightly exceeds the tip of the stock pin when comparing them side by side.

Lets see who else chimes in. :)

My 0.010 has a slight bend as well. I'm gonna go with the 0.012 based on your advice. I like a nice, firm throw anyway. Also, it should technically give slightly less voltage drop than 0.010, and it should be harder to melt a button. All this stress when the new kits will be here in two weeks, but hey, welcome to life.

Thanks X.

I also just used .012 and cannot compare, I also had to trim the front side on an angle after rolling to get it to clear.

I use flat tops on mine with 0.012 I will post some pics with ruler for sizes for you ... the delrin screw ive taken off mine a million times without any wearing, just don't tighten it down, as soon as it go's snug I stop....

the only thing with my pin is that I can only use flat's :D when I first made the pin a while ago I put a button top in and it continued to fire ..
