[ Just paste broken links shown in purple directly into your browser - the extra line doesn't matter. PM me if you have more recent info. about state or local proposed/actual legislation, or if you want more tweaks to the formatting program. ]

1) NY Gov. Cuomo allocates $9M from the state health dep't to local anti-tobacco groups. Presumably these funds will be used to fight vaping.

2) Beverly Hills CA considering treating vaping as smoking for purposes of its indoor clean air act ord. (including banning vaping in parks, etc.)

3) Cook Co. IL passes minor sales ban that (?) also includes restrictions on the location of B&M stores.

4) Louisville KY mayor proposes simple minor sales ban.

Tip: to see whether there are bad things happening where you live, try this Google search (example for Rhode Island) -
rhode site:casaa.org
(Replace rhode with a single word that describes your city, county, or state. For ex., if you live in Eau Claire, WI - you might use "Claire" to see if something is being proposed at the city level. Don't forget the : (colon), and be sure that there's nothing before or after the colon (not even spaces or tabs.)

You can also try replacing site:casaa.org with e-cigarette to find out what the media is reporting in your area. This is usually most helpful if you use the search tools to search by date. (CASAA doesn't generally issue calls or alerts until a bill is out of a state legislative committee, or is scheduled for a local city or county hearing.)

(US Nat'l News 'zine - re: NY state) http://www.huffingtonpost
.com/2014/02/19/cuomo-smoking_n_4817196.html?ir=Healthy+Living

Gov. Cuomo to allocate $9M from the NY Dep't of Health to local groups that advocate against smoking, according to this more detailed article: http://www.riverheadlocal
.com/government-press-releases/new-york-state-department-of-health-to-award-9-million-to-groups-promoting-tobacco-free-communities

Presumably the local groups will be funded to lobby their cities and counties to pass anti-vaping laws. See quote from Glantz in the original HuffPo piece about strategy: 'We now have empirical evidence that people who don’t like the tobacco industry are about five times as likely to quit, and a third to a fifth as likely to start,' University of California, San Francisco professor Stanton Glantz told The New York Times."
[ NY has a vaping=smoking bill indoor ban now in the legislature. See: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ng-e-cigs-contain-tobacco-all-workplaces.html also tax bill: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-tax-e-cig-cartridges-75-wholesale-price.html ]

Junk-filled report on one proposed Philly ord. that would ban vaping sales to minors, sponsored by Councilman Bill Greenlee who is also co-sponsoring the other vaping=smoking ord. which would ban vaping indoors and in city parks, etc. Another report, also junky: http://www.nbcphiladelphia

Mayor Greg Fischer proposes ban on vaping sales to minors. More onimously, Louisville has a " Healthy Louisville 2020 plan" which seeks to expand outdoor "smoke free" areas, although it's presently silent on vaping. No junk other than minor "fears."

Cook Co. passes additional fines for sale to minors, augments existing statewide ban. There's no mention of an additional provision in the bill which would restrict new licenses for vape stores that are too close to schools & rec. areas. Some junk.
[ IL currently considering two bills that require vaping supplies (but not non-cigarette tobacco) to be behind the counter, see: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...counter-exempts-tobacco-specialty-stores.html and one bill that would require special packaging: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-e-cig-products-sold-il-protect-children.html ]

More on HB 112, which would ban online sales and impose labelling and manufacturing requirements on e-juice vendors - junky article portrays this as "protecting children." Aaron Frazier of UT vapers is quoted, as is (surprise) a local addiction expert who says the bill goes too far. In another report, Frazier says he was shut down after 45 seconds of testimony: http://www.4utah

More coverage of NY Gov. Cuomo's decision to fund local anti-tobacco groups w/ $9 from tne NY Health Dep't - few of these articles seem to mention vaping, but you can be sure that the groups will lobby their local jurisdictions for local anti-vaping ordinances.
