I find such a proposed ban to be a bit silly considering the DOT only has the legal right to make regulations on smoking while this is not smoking. There simply is no smoke, no combustion whatsoever. There is no evidence it even harms bystanders at all. This seems to be a proposal based on ignorance and fear for lack of understanding what electronic cigarettes are. There is an assumption that is made to anything that resembles a cigarette. The word itself "cigarette" makes most people's mind's rush to the worst connotations possible. I find it very unreasonable the DOT is rushing to ban something that has yet to even be researched. Should after extensive research from different laboratories(not just the FDA) be made without a bias that an electronic cigarette is harmful then I and others could understand. Should evidence come to that conclusion it would be one thing but right now this ban is very sadly being proposed out of sheer ignorance and that shows what an unfortunate state of mind we are in. Please make proposals based on evidence, research, science facts, and not paranoia associated with assumptions tied to tobacco. An electronic cigarette is not tobacco and should not be treated as such.
Just the other night people around me said " Oh wow that smells so good!" as I vaped(I don't call it smoking because its not smoking after-all) my electronic cigarette device. I never ever heard someone say that when I smoked cigarettes once upon a time. Non smokers around me never complain, tell me how much better my voice sounds and notice how I no longer cough. This invention has truly helped my life and now is helping my family around me feel better and quit smoking too.

I'm trying to post my comment, but it keeps getting stuck saving my comment. Growl. I'll keep trying, though!

There is no reason why the use of an electronic cigarette on an aircraft should be considered illegal. There is no combustion taking place, no harmful chemicals being released, and no components which would make use on an aircraft unsafe in any way. A ban disallowing use on aircraft is within the rights of the airline corporations, but to make it an illegal act is extreme and unnecessary. I cannot imagine any reason why legislation of this type is called for. Please do your due diligence and research the facts. Electronic cigarettes pose absolutely no danger to the public at large, and a law making their use illegal does nothing but restrict the rights of the individual.

This proposed ban on e-cigs on airplanes makes no sense. E-cigs do not burn anything, therefore do not produce smoke. There is no proof of them harming anyone (directly or indirectly) although they have been used worldwide for years. Judge Leon noted when he ruled against the government in NJOY vs. FDA that the government did not show any evidence of harm to anyone from electronic cigarettes. I strongly recommend you not go forward with this proposed ban.

I read that earlier and thought it was great.
