Hey I recently built a quad coil on my nimbus clone, it's 1.1 ohms, 30g kanthal and 10 wraps per coil, each coil was about 4ohms. My Provari will only let me go up to 4.0v and it doesn't vape too well. So I put it onto my Reo Grande and double stacked my 350 batteries in it. I'm guessing between 7.4-8.4v since they are fresh off of the charger. It Vapes good, big clouds and really warm vapor. So my question is: Is it bad to run a 1.1ohm quad coil at 7.4-8.4 volts?

At 8.2v that's pushing 61 watts at 7.5 amps, which is right at the limits of the 18350. Then you are stacking batteries that are not a matched pair, so one may have a higher internal resistance than the other, meaning a lower amp limit. So knowing the amp limit is pushed, and knowing that the weaker of the two batteries is the weakest link, I'd advise against it.

Stacking batteries is like stacking ladders. You might get away with it--for a while--but it's highly likely to end in a trip to the emergency room eventually. Yes, there are some people who do it successfully, but they're expert engineers and can stack two ladders and lash them together. Even so, it's far less safe than simply using one ladder of the appropriate size.

In this case, you're drawing the batteries very hard as well, which is an added risk.

So all things considered, I'd mark it off as a bad idea and choose another solution if I were in your shoes...

Yes, it's bad with these batteries. As Sawlight said, the draw on each battery fresh off the charger is going to be around 7.5 amps. The problem is AW 18350 batts have a 6A continuous discharge limit. There are a couple of others on the market at 6.4A. So you're into the 'burst' limit of the battery which means if you keep the button pressed a battery will vent eventually because heat is being generated. And because you're stacking unmatched batteries one of them is going to get hot faster than the other.

This is not safe! It's the same stress on the batteries as if you were using one of these batteries at 0.55 ohms. Even the collapsing spring isn't going to save you, because there is no short, you're just over driving the batteries.

Hope this helps.
