Florida certainly has a broad definition of vaping with no distinctions.

* Includes vaping using an electronic device (e.g., electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS), electronic cigarette, e-cigarette, vaporizer, vape(s), vape pen, dab pen, or other) to inhale substances (e.g., nicotine, marijuana, THC, THC concentrates, CBD, synthetic cannabinoids, flavorings, or other substances), with or without smoking of any plant, chemical, or substance.

Again, why the focus on 8, 10, or 11 when there are so many other reasons that teens die or are injured that nobody wants to look at?

It is so easy to use vaping as an excuse, but there are many more reasons teens die or are harmed, and some just don't have what it takes to look at those issues, and that is the real issue.

There should be a lot more data on the Georgia guy than there is. He’d have credit cards, he’d have an internet history, he’d have a bank account. Heck, he likely had a spouse.
I believe a lot of these "nicotine only" vapers are just not fessing up to vaping thc for fear of retribution.

Below is a long investigative article about the THC carto connection. I don't believe anything the CDC or FDA says about vaping. They have an agenda. Regardless some bad stuff that shouldn't be there got into the liquid of these unlucky people. The CDC is never going to disclose the source of this problem because they want to scare as many people as possible. I'm sick of them.
Journey of a Tainted Vape Cartridge: From China’s Labs to Your Lungs

That’s a very good article. Explains a lot about not only THC cartridges but fake Juul pods as well.

The CDC needs to start telling the truth to the public about how dangerous the black market THC pods are. Otherwise we will continue to see these deaths.

This is the section of the Georgia article that interested me:
“K.C. Crosthwaite, an executive from Altria, the largest U.S. tobacco company and maker of Marlboro cigarettes, replaces Burns. Altria owns a 35% stake in Juul. (Altria is expected to open during the coming weeks a new “heat-not-burn” tobacco product store at Lenox Square in Buckhead, the company’s first store ahead of a national rollout.)”

More on that topic here ...
Juul CEO steps down. To be replaced by Altria Chief Growth Officer

I don’t remember seeing that at all last time. It’s also very inconsistent with the rest of the article which says that nothing is known about specific products. Something is off.

Looks like the CBS46 article is local, so they have more details. This case stands out. 35 yr old, former cigarette smoker (unknown PAD), vaped for six years and "was known to only vape with nicotine, and not THC." To my mind, several possible scenarios jump out:
  1. He lied! He was 'dabbing' (THC, Butane Hash Oil, etc). Vitamin E Acetate scenario, similar to majority of cases.
  2. His high-nicotine habit included Juul-like pods for stealth hits and bought tainted compatible pods (with unknown contaminants) to save on cost.
  3. He used tainted pods that contained high amounts of sodium benzoate which he was allergic to.
  4. He used tainted pods that contained essential oils.
  5. His store bought e-Juice had contaminants (essential oils, etc)
  6. He is an actual case of 'popcorn lung' (extreme amounts of diketones over years)
Except for the last two scenarios, contaminated street vapes would be explanation. The last two scenarios (5 and 6) would be alarming.

Florida certainly has a broad definition of vaping with no distinctions.

That seems to be very art of the plan. Equate nicotine with any controlled substance they can.

And it is a Very Effective tactic. And it's Intent has even Extended down to the ECF.

A Google search for "Vaping Deaths" will include this Thread. Just More Verification that using an e-Cigarette causes Deaths.

Hopefully non-vapers will read this topic and better understand the real issue is not nicotine vaping, even if it it's a common factor involved it's most likely a coincidence.

We all care about harm reduction and the government and anti-vaping community needs to understand that. But even if we didn't we still have the right to vape.

Table salt kills more people in a month than vaping has in it's entire existence. Vaping saves 100s if not 1000s of lives yearly, find something else to demonize, something truly harmful, how about the actual issue of vitamin e acetate and possibly tainted black market pods.

They should have autopsy and toxicology results on many of these deaths by now. Just say'n.
That won't tell them everything, but everyone should know what to look for and what the characteristics of these cases are.

Were they all lipoid pneumonia? If not, what else?

If this were a contagion and not a self administered harm Me thinks we would have had some answers by now...this we don't really know stuff infuriating.

This is weird now, Its beginning to look like a deliberate attack. Why else would they open a criminal investigation? The feds must think someone has done this on purpose. 10 to 12 years nothing more then a few battery accidents and a few hospitalizations but none directly link to vaping like now... something isnt right, I do hope they find the cause fast so we can move on with our lives..

FDA has said they will have regulations to remove all non tobacco flavors from the market within 30 days, yes, we will be moving on with our lives, but in a totally different market from what we have had up until now. The torpedo's are being readied to sink this ship we call vaping, and I don't think there is a snowballs chance in Hades from stopping this train wreck.

I try to keep an open mind open eyes when it comes to this subject. I won't rule out anything as a cause for this lung disease.
But something is just not right and vague about this report
Georgia announces first vaping death in the state

The man, who was older and lived outside of Metro Atlanta, died earlier this year.

Earlier this year?? like... when? weeks/months ago? Is this a retrospective diagnosis made now (postmortem) in light of recent cases?
Officials say he was a former cigarette smoker, who switched to vaping six years ago. They say he was purchasing the same nicotine vape products from the same vape shop on a consistent basis. .

Doesn't mean he was not other substances or from other shops/outlets!
He was known to only vape with nicotine, and not THC. .

Known??! You mean he was not even tested for THC (and a bunch of other substances)??

Health officials say the man who died started experiencing the same symptoms as patients in other reported cases -- shortness of breath, chest pain, and cough – that eventually turned into pneumonia and then complete respiratory failure.

In addition to the man who died, Georgia health officials are investigating eight cases of vaping-related lung disease across the state, in which the patients have fallen ill; and other possible cases are being reviewed.

All patients were hospitalized and developed pneumonia with no known infectious cause. Cases range in age from 18 to 68 years (median age 26 years), 78% are male.
Definitely sounds like all of them are retrospective cases (notice past tense: were instead of are hospitalized). They went back digging in health records to prove their point? Data mining lol.
Could Georgia be next?
Hope not.
