I feel you on the cold! Not that we could compare to Lannie, but it's currently 22 with a wind chill of 5. Where did my 60 go?? Finally broke out the boots cuz mesh sneakers weren't gonna cut it!

And we got snow yesterday! Only like an inch and it stopped and already started melting by like 4ish, but still, we got snow. Hopefully we don't have a repeat of last year! That was ridiculous.

I wanna move in with Karen! We just got above zero a few minutes ago, and the windchill they SAY is 25 below, but it feels colder than that. More snow in the forecast for tonight, too, not that we need any more.

It was so cold in the barn this morning that the injection I was going to give to Cricket froze inside the needle, and the syringe popped off and it went all over the outside of her shoulder. The first dose went inside Rich's pocket, when he bent over to put his boots on, and squished the plunger up. I went back and reloaded it and decided to carry it in my bare hand to the barn to keep it warm, but I didn't have my hand over the needle part. Then I couldn't get the damned needle through her thick hide, and I had to stab her multiple times before I got it through, and if it hadn't already been frozen by then, it surely was after all the dancing around she did and me looking for thinner skin. Plus I got nailed by a kick about 2 inches above my left kneecap. Thank God she didn't hit me in the kneecap! As it is, the muscle right above my knee is swelling to the size of an orange. It hasn't started to color yet, but it's gonna be a nasty bruise by tonight or tomorrow.

In other words, just another normal day here at Love Acres.

Winters in the desert can be quite lovely, everything is finally green lol.
I'm gonna see if I can talk my honey into going for a ride next weekend so I can get some pics of the fields of angel's trumpets blooming :)

I'd give just about anything to live in the desert again. It was the place that felt BEST to me. But can't live in an arid climate with grazing animals. Not unless you're exceedingly wealthy and can afford to have hay trucked in and feed it year 'round. We did that when we had horses, but we both had good jobs then, horses don't eat NEARLY as much as a cow does, and hay was cheap. So we're stuck where the grass grows, until I finally decide to give up the farm, which will be NEVER if I have anything to say about it. Kicks, bruises, frozen cow pies and all. I love it.
