On Facebook, max makes videos with his cross country girlfriend. She has a high pitched diva scream type of howl, and as soon as max hears it, he runs in, does a high pitched whimper, and then throws his head back to sing in his grown up big boy deeper voice. They howl "I love youuuuuuu"back and forth.

That really is nice of you, USMC; my husband and I are both veterans of the substance abuse wars, and feel VERY blessed to have survived it mostly intact (mostly!). A lot of people treat those so damaged in those wars as if they're of no account whatever, just like the ANTZ are to smokers with lung cancer.

Same! My husband and I are both veterans of that war, as is my daughter. :) USMC reminds me a LOT of my almost son in law. He is an amazing individual who works with Landmark helping veterans get the benefits they should have, and he and my daughter are managers of a recovery house. My SIL loves to help people in every capacity, especially with PTSD, recovery, and vaping! I have nothing but admiration and respect for him and for USMC!!!

It can be trying at times...just have to remember that they can't always help themselves :p
Exactly!! If I had not gotten the support I so desperately needed over 13 years ago I would not be here. I was so badly damaged that it took 2 years to get right. Well, mostly right, lol. :) I am so grateful for that "hand up" I got in early recovery. This community is very much like my other program. :)

@cooladdict ...max ate a couch, and a bed, and another couch, and the corners off of the coffee table, and flip flops, and Bose headphones, and a MacBook charger....sound familiar???
Ha! Yes, yes it does. :) I once went into Walmart and there was a guy stocking the shelves in the pet treats aisle. I asked him where the flip flop flavored dog treats were. He looked at me like, "Whuuuu?" I explained that flip flop was apparently my dog's favorite flavor, considering he had chewed up about 13 of my daughter's. He looked at me like I was a little nuts. He's right, but so am I! :p That was with Suzie, our beloved Yellow Lab who passed in December. She was such a character. :) Now we have little Homer, who is a 10-week-old Chocolate Lab (and my baby, Lhattie, a Lhasa/Westie "designer dog") and he is proving to be allllll Lab already, lol. Good thing I decided that this time, I crate train! :)

When we got Max from rescue, we had only seen a few pics of him. They said he looked like a stuffie, and said he was about 10-11 months old. Imagine our surprise when we went to get him, and he was already bigger than our 2 full grown ones! Jim turned and looked over his shoulder and as dry as back be, gives me the pointed look and says "this inst my PUPPY"... Lmaooooo

We got Virgil the giant Golden from our friends who have Goldens and occasionally breed them. Their dog only had 3 pups in that litter; Virgil and 2 girls. He was twice as big as his sisters at birth and remains so to this day. :) We had to rehome him when my husband went to ND for work because he was just too danged big. I had just taken in my then barely 3-year-old granddaughter and that big ol' oaf would constantly knock her over or into things. He always felt sooo bad when he hurt her. :( He is now living the high life in Bremerton with a nurse practitioner and her husband. They live right on a lake and he gets to chase the birdies all day long. His new parents even upgraded their Prius to a Subaru to accommodate him! It absolutely broke my heart to see him go but he deserved so much better. He is such a big sweetheart. Smart, too! He was 100% housebroken by the time he was 8 weeks old! Homer, not so much. He is getting it, but he still has his moments, lol. Today was a good day. Only 1 accident in the house! Of course we spent most of the day taking my granddaughter's belongings up to her new place with her mommy and my almost son-in-law (such a bittersweet day for me) and he was in the truck most of the day, but hey! I will take any progress on potty training as a good thing! :)

Thanks, @redrebel821, me too! I like it so much better on the light side. The dark side was so very dark.
Now instead, you have come to the vape side....

We tried crate training..we chewed a whole in the side, of a wire crate.
Oh no!! Homer does pretty well his crate--so far. :p He does, however, already have a penchant for digging holes. I have a feeling it is going to be a very busy summer for me, lol. My husband has decided that he wants to go back to ND to work, so guess who gets to go through the entire puppy phase alone??? Oh well. It only lasts about 2 years...

I had a golden lab cross when I was a teen. He was a stray that moved in (like many of my dogs) and we let him stay. He was so goofy looking, still growing into his paws and ears, we couldn't think of a more suitable name then, wait for it.......Virgil!
He turned out to be one of the smartest dogs I've ever had :p

NO. WAY. That is incredible!! I can't wait to tell my husband! He said he wanted to name ours Virgil because he had decided long ago that if he ever had a son (he has 1 daughter) that he would name him Virgil Ray. Thankfully that never happened, so Virgil's AKC registration is In The Way Virgil Ray of Central Park. I miss him so much. I need to email his parents and get an update on him. :)
