I've been smokoing for 15 years. I have gone from Newports to Marlboro Red to Kamel Red to Marlboro Light to Kamel Red Light to finally Marlboro Menthol Light.

I saw a stand in the mall (cant remember the exact company) but they seemed a little pricey and being a computer geek (by profession) decided to do some internet research and came across this forum.

Even being a geek who can handle quite a bit of information I was a little overwhelmed. I am looking for something that gives me a good amount of smoke (vapor) with a taste right now similar to a menthol tobacco (Marlboro Menthol Light) or even with a slight chocolate flavor mixed in (ala Marlboro smooth - they have a chocolately menthol tobacco flavor).

I think I have decided on a 510 (something with a black finish and a blue led in the end - the geeky techy toy nature coming out) with an automatic battery (sesation of the smoking draw). But after reading a little I might be rethinking for something like a 901 (I think it was).

I would like to order from someplace stateside (was looking at vermont vapors).

All in all I was just looking for some feedback and advice.

P.S.
Hi.

Cignot is a "local" supplier for you. The 510 is a good starting point if you are waffling with a 901. Both are 3 piece units, but the 510 gets a little hotter, so you get more of a throat hit. I started there with Cignot , but migrated to a cooler, higher capacity 801. It's a learned personal preference thing. The classifieds here can net you inexpensive trial models.

I got a 510 kit from Nhaler (with coupon code saveinnj) it was $49.30 shipped but in addition to the standard 5 prefilled carts their kit comes with 2 6ml sampler size bottles of liquid (and they have some tasty liquid)
But I was looking for a decent menthol and finally settled on mixing Nhaler's nuport and super menthol 50/50 and I must say that I'm really pleased with those results..
Oh and as a side note..I went with manual batteries...autos can be sensitive to sound and vibration or high winds...and you don't have to use a primer puff..

I started with an Njoy Npro but soon switched to the 901. Been with that model since April and I really love it. I stick with one model because it's cheaper in the long run as all the parts are interchangable. But one day I would like to try a 510. It seems here in the forum that those 2 models have the most fans. I bet you will be happy with either one. Good luck!

[...] decided to do some internet research [...] P.S. Hi.

Awesome, you're already way ahead of most people. I bought 2 before I decided to do some research...

Either of the models you mentioned will do, but nobody can tell you which one you will like the best.

As to "local", everything is coming through the mail, anyway, so Oklahoma is as close to Chicago as Indiana, in my opinion... I'm not aware of a brick-and-mortar in the Chicago area (Anyone else know of one?).

Knowing your way around the Internet will help you a LOT with this stuff, and the people on this forum will help as well. Don't be afraid to ask a question, just be aware that you will get a lot of different answers! :D

My first and only (so far) is a 510 and I am satisfied with it. Find a vendor here with good reviews and you'll be fine. The one that is fast becoming my favorite personal vendor is MyPVshop.com and I can't say enough good things about them, but I also can't tell you who to steer clear of because I don't have experience with many others.

The 510 gives me plenty of vapor and flavor and the parts (atomizers and batteries) are cheap. I have found that mixing a little glycerin in the juice gives me loads more vapor. I am going to have to break down and buy an RN4075 from Randall because I'm tired of hearing everyone else brag on them and I have to find out for myself...

I have a 510 with a manual and an auto battery.... my suggestion would be get a kit with both... you will probably find that very soon the manual battery becomes the preferred one.... tis a far better draw.

My kit came with both, but I have just ordered a spare, and yes, the spare is the manual battery. The auto battery will be used as my backup with the 2 manual batteries being my primaries.

I cannot suggest a vendor as my vendors are a little bit too far away from you :)

enjoy!

This is the place to come for advise..

Im currently using the Vapor King KR808D-1 (from vapor4life.com) they have a subforum here also, Vapor4Life - e-cigarette-forum.com • The place for electronic cigarette reviews, news and chat

Anyway, I am sure the other posters have great advise too, but as one who was in a very similar situation, I decided the VK is my best bet because I did not want to deal with dripping or refilling from the start..

The VK is a 2 pc which allows you to charge the battery put the Cartridge on and vape away... No hassle! When it runs out just replace it.. Extra battery on hand when the 1st one dies and so on..

The Passthrough is also very nice, because it produced vapor equal to a real cigarette and gives you that satisfaction you are looking for.. Which ever you choose, good luck!

I started with an Njoy Npro [...]

And your location is "NW Arkansas", so I bet I can guess what town YOU live in! :D I'm not a stalker, I just know my truckstops. I bought my first Npro at a Pilot Truckstop.

Now, back on topic:

That's great advice, as well. I usually recommend something similar, because (in my opinion) a 2-piece is more noob-friendly.

Sometimes I'll wait for someone else to suggest it, because I'm starting to sound like a Representative, or something...

[...] im a cheap ******* who would hate to throw away a perfectly good atty because im out of juice. [...]

They can be refilled a few times, and they hold more juice/vape longer than a 510 cart. I usually drip, but I use cartos when I'm driving, because I don't like to "drip and drive". :D

Nothing wrong with a 510, though.

I was a 43 year 20-30 cig a day smoker. I quit day one in Feb 09.

My advice is:

You won't go far wrong with either a 901 or 510. Stick to a "generic" mainstream device like that at first.

Whatever you buy make sure you have at least three batteries in working condition at all times, have several spare atomisers, buy blanks carts and liquid for filling them and topping up. (And have more than one battery charger).

You might want to consider having one manual battery so that you can fid out if you like them...

I made the switch from analogs the day after Christmas. I smoked for 25 years, averaging 1.5 to 2 packs a day, camel lights lastly. I bought an "L2" 510 kit from stictlyejuice, not genuine Joyetech units. I do like the 510, but I blew out my first atty in two days, and the second atty was hopelessly clogged as of three days ago, and I haven't attempted to clean it yet. I bought some new, genuine Joye atties and they're working great.

I'm also having issues with the batteries. One exhibits the "sticking on" behavior, where the light goes out but the atty keeps burning away. I guess a number of people have had this problem with the batteries in these kits. I've gotten into the habit of listening to my PV before setting it down, to make sure it's actually off. The other battery just doesn't seem to take much of a charge. That one typically only lasts through one session before flashing out.

In fact, the short charge life of the 510 batts is driving me crazy. It seems like I'm constantly swapping batts, and whichever one I have attached never fails to die the second I get in the car. I'm snooping through the modders sub-forum to find a battery mod I like, and feel competent to build. Running a full day or more on a charge sounds a step closer to heaven, and a bit more oomph out of the battery will be great too, hopefully providing more vapor.

Now, my wife wants one, but she doesn't want to mess around with her kit, so we're leaning toward a Vapor King. I really kind of like the idea of cartomizers since that first atty of mine blew out so quick. Part of the reason I switched was to save money, and burning out a 7-10 dollar atty every two days wouldn't help there. (even though that first one was most likely noob error, it still gave me pause for concern) So, a two dollar cartomizer, which can still be refilled a number of times, sounds like a great solution. My wife is a much lighter smoker than me also, so a filled cartomizer should last her a day or two at least, whereas I'm refilling my cartridge two or three times a day, and topping off a couple of times in between.
