The batteries I tested can change what's underneath the wrap at any time. Since there are no 18350's from Samsung, Sony, or LG available to us we are at risk even if the battery is not being counterfeited.

These cells were purchased by me for the purposes of testing thanks to the wonderful donations from so many of you. Thank you! To prevent any confusion with the eGo-type "batteries", I use the term "cell" here to refer to a single 18650, 26650, etc.

    Disclaimer
The statements, conclusions, and recommendations I make based on these tests are only my personal opinion. Carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Testing cells at their limits is dangerous and should never, ever, be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved and how to minimize them. My safety precautions are the ones I have elected to take and you should not assume they will protect you if you attempt to do any testing. Do the research and create your own testing methods and safety precautions.

A note regarding current ratings and my testing
If the cell has only one current rating number on it, or if it says "max discharging current" then I have to assume that the company is stating that the cell can be discharged at that current level in any way, including continuous. Otherwise they would have listed the current rating with two numbers as other companies have done. Or they would have labeled the rating on the wrap as "pulse" or "burst". Battery buyers should not have to hunt down what the number on the wrap means. I will be testing batteries at the rating listed on the wrap and pointing out when they fail to meet that listed rating.

    • The 18350 testing is done and the results are available at: 18350 Safety Grades and Pulse Performance Data | E-Cigarette Forum
    • This results are presented in a new table. Be sure to read the explanations (bottom of the table) for each column's data.
    • I want to thank Jon at Liion Wholesale for donating, for testing, a set of the Efest Purple 700mAh V1 cells.
    • To speed up the testing, only a 5A continuous current discharge was done to check for cell-to-cell consistency.
    • It appears that there were only five different cells being used by these battery companies for the thirteen 18350's that were tested. Nine of the 18350's used what appears to be the same cell.

I was quite confident that the AW 18350 would come out on top before you completed your tests. :thumb:

Same here. I was looking forward to this test but now realize it is of limited value.

AW is the only one of the companies who I believe test batteries before they apply their wrap. So I continue to count on them.

But with the other brands, even though some showed good performance there's no guarantee that the one I buy tomorrow will have the same manufacturer/performance of the test battery.

Since I'm rotten at gambling, I intend to stick with AW, who I feel I can trust to give me quality 18350/18490/18500 batteries

Do you have any idea who the original manufacturers are? The usual gang of three?
