18650 batteries, one to rule them all!

Hi guys, my names jon and im new to the blog. i ave a few questions on 18650 batteries for my mech mod. ive been getting mixed signals between the sony ones and the efest ones. i am currently using the Efest IMR 35A 18650 2500mah 3.7V batteries, but i have had the 30A Sony 18650 Battery 1600mAh 3.7V and never really had an issue and felt that the sony may have held life longer.

Which one do you honestly think is better. thanks and happy vaping

It all depends on your usage.

The Sony is a good choice if you are going to be hitting it hard with low resistance loads.

The Efest 35a is a fine battery, it is a rewrapped LG HE2 with a 20 amp continuous and 35 amp pulse rating.

I usually run VCT5s, HE2s or 25R batteries when I am below 1 ohm on an 18650 mech. I rarely vape under .4 though.

Around 1 ohm and over I use the panasonic NCR18650PF because it performs better than any of the above but has a 10amp continuous rating.

Which battery is better is dependent on your application.

Just because a battery can do 30amps continuous does not make it a better battery for you, unless you need that 30 amps.

plain and simple, VTC4's & 5's will always out perform E.Purple whatever. The Sony's are safer. Your E.Purples are usually lg 20 amp continuous, 35 amp pulse re-wrapped, or VTC4 qc rejects. Thing is, with an high amp continuous batt, when vaping at high watts, one has more available, useable power. Oh, more safety too. Thinking the 1600 mah Sonys are the old VTC3's though.

has been my experience, one can't use mah rating for comparison, unless both batts are of equal continuous amp rating.

Not to be rude or sound harsh but;
Before you venture into sub ohm territory you should already know what continuous discharge rate (CDR) battery is nessecary for the resistance ranges you intend to use.
The LG he2 2500 mah is 20a CDR, the Sony vtc3 1600 mah is 30a CDR.
Both are good safe batteries as long as you don't equal or exceed their CDR.

What a battery can safely handle using .xx of an ohm coils depends on the accuracy of what you use to measure resistance, the condition of your batteries and if they are authentic or re wrapped lesser quality cells, outright fakes of unknown quality or use marketing hype / false amp ratings.

The two best websites I've found to help with choosing batteries and building coils are:

1. vapecalc.com This will help you confirm that your battery is sufficient for the task.

2. Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators This will help you get the correct wraps, etc.

A purple Efest is perfectly fine if you aren't going to sub-ohm at .2 or below. For that battery I'd recommend a margin of error and stick to around .4-.5 however. I use it on a dual-coil .8 ohm build and I'm quite happy with it.

Is it ture that VTC5s are being discontinued if so what is going to replace it as the best all round battery ?
Hi i am Alan and a new member of the forum

Rumor is they are done.

Rumor is they are done for now.

rumor is they have a new factory opening and that they will be produced again soon.

Another rumor is JFK needed power for his ipod so he came back and took them all to the nether world.

below link is your friend.

Ohm's law | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

at max charge, 3.7 V battery will be at around 4.2 V. with your coil resistance at .3 ohm, you will draw 14 A. so, max CDR at 20 A should work. but, 30 A is safer. with battery with max CDR at 20 A, i heard .4 ohm is about as low as you want to go.

i use Samsung 25R, and .4 ohm is about as low as I would go. if you are going down to .3 ohm, Sony VTR4 or VTR5 is what you want... if you can find the real thing.
