The spring holds positive away from the battery, just sqeeze it together to fire. Turn the top cap clockwise 1/4 inch and it will not sqeeze together. The washer keeps the spring from tearing up the wrap on the battery. Two screws slide along slots cut into the sleeve to lock in place.
