Hello!

I will soon be buying the SMOKtech koopor plus 200w TC mod. It will be used with the Crown tank by Uwell. I'm having some trouble determining which 18650's to buy and how they function in the device as well. First off, what amp rating should I be looking for in my batteries? I will be using either .15 ni200 coils or .25 stainless steel coils and do not plan on firing the device over 120 watts.

Secondly, in a mod that uses 2 18650 batteries instead of just one, like the Koopor plus 200w that I will be buying, how are the batteries drained? One at a time? Or does the device take current from both batteries simultaneously? Does this change the amps that the batteries can continuously discharge? Or change anything at all?

Lastly, as sort of a miscellaneous question, when researching which batteries to use I stumbled upon the Sony 18650 VTC5 2600mah 30A. I have used the green Sony batteries years ago and loved them, but upon looking them up I've discovered that the market is flooded with fake VTC5's being marketed as such. Is there a confirmed authentic source from which to buy these batteries? Or would a completely different battery be better for my intended vaping ohms/wattage?

Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

To answer your second question, you will want to purchase two brand new batteries. Those two batteries should always be used together in the mod and charged together in a dual or quad bay charger. The set of batteries are referred to as "married" and should never be used or charged individually from that point on. This insures that the batteries drain equally when used together in your mod.

If you are 120watts and above, only 3 batteries for that application, the Sony VTC3 and LG HB6 are true 30amp batteries, and the Sony VTC4 20 to 25amp CDR but have no problem being pushed to 30amps. The VTC5 you listed will be fine 100watts and under being it is not a 30amp but a 20amp battery. 100 to 120watts I'd suggest Sony VTC4s or Samsung 25Rs. I've go a link in my signature line to a blog post I did on these by wattage range, might be of use to give it a read.

I also have another blog post on battery configurations and how they theoretically work. However the Sigelei 150, Snowwolf 200watts and other super high APVs like the Koopor 200w and such run in a series configuration, think of placing the batteries into a Maglight flashlight, this is a series circuit. This boosts the output to 8.4v max voltage input compared to the 4.2volts of a single cell, however the mAh is the same as a single battery and the amp limits are the same as a single battery. Example - Sig150watt, batteries Sony VTC4s (2100mAh 20 to 30amp CDR, 4.2volts fresh charge) Voltage is 8.4volts fresh charge, 2100mAh, 20 to 30amp CDR. It is much easier to get wattage by throwing more voltage at a coil than throwing raw amperage, thus why a lot of these mods are coming in series wiring configuration.

100watts and below in a dual battery configuration, the LG HG2 (3000mAh, 20amp CDR), Samsung 25R (20amp CDR, 2500mAh), LG HE2/HE4 (2500mah, 20amp CDR), Sony VTC5 (2600mAh, 20amp CDR), and Sony VTC4 (2100mAh, 20 to 30amp CDR), 100 to 120watt the Sony VTC4 and Samsung 25R are the resident bruisers in that category, the LG HE2/HE4 can also handle the stress being as capable as the Samsung 25R. Not going to be pushing above 100watts all the time, the LG HG2 is the one I and several others suggest the most due to the mAh rating on them, at 120watts or so all the time, the Sony VTC4 is your best bet, 150watts plus I'd suggest the LG HB6 then due to it is the coolest running battery on the market at 30amp load, but it is only 1500mAh (sacrifices mAh for its true 30amp rating)

Sony VTC4's are the best balance of run time and amp ability. I use them exclusively in mechs and series mods. I recently got a couple of pairs of the HG2's for my parallel mod and the run time is amazing, but I wouldn't push them over 80W. They get warm, even in my parallel mod. For me, 75 - 80W is the break point for a 20A CDR battery. Anything over that I use a VTC4.
2 reputable vendors of authentic batteries:
18650 Batteries Li-ion rechargeable protected | unprotected
Search results for: 'vtc4'
They usually have the best prices by a buck or so and if one is out, the other one usually has them.

Hey guys/girls,

I am just reading your replies now, finals week... meh.:nah: Thanks for the insight, I had a feeling that the Sony VTC's would most likely still be the best all around, and if I decide on going with those I'll be sure to check out the websites. Also, I have never heard of the LG HG2, but you've got me interested as I am a sucker for long battery life! Thanks again, I was having a hard time finding a simple answer like this online
