    No you can't
We all heard the name and should know this man; that many say was Anoint by God he was firm in his faith.

A Sermon (No. 999) Delivered on Lord's-day Morning, July 9th, 1871, by C. H. SPURGEON, At the Metropolitan Tabernacle, Newington

I have never heard a complete Sermon like this said from the pulpit before. - WHY?

So much truth and understanding for ALL. :?:

To think C.H SPURGEON was on the Pulpit 143 years ago, traveling around the country and people ran to hear him speak on God.

Now we are told that we are YOU FILL IN THE BLANKS.

Get your coffee or beverage and don't forget your vapor device, it's long and will take awhile to read through but if your like me, you won't be able to stop; until you finish reading it all through in one sitting - IT"S AWESOME. :vapor:

Also the link will tell us all about the man called SPURGEON including his sermons, writings, library.

When visited by the Spirit of God, we find that even when the will is present with us, how to perform that which we would we find not; yea, and we discover that our will is averse to all that is good, and that naturally we will not come unto Christ that we may have life. What poor frail things resolutions are when seen in the light of God's Spirit!
Still the man will say, "I believe I have, after all, within myself an enlightened conscience and an intelligence that will guide me aright. The light of nature I will use, and I do not doubt that if I wander somewhat I shall find my way back again." Ah, man! thy wisdom, which is the very flower of thy nature, what is it but folly, though thou knowest it not? Unconverted and unrenewed, thou art in God's sight no wiser than the wild ...'s colt. I wish thou wert in thine own esteem humbled as a little child at Jesus' feet, and made to cry, "Teach thou me."

The Withering Work of the Spirit

ALL GATHER THEE AND LISTEN TO THE WORD OF THE LORD!

Get ready to receive REVELATION from GOD!

You're right....it's a long read and I wasn't getting the full message until I asked the Holy Spirit to reveal it to me. The older style of English was bogging me down, so I had to have some Help. Then it ticked like clockwork. What a gifted man of God! That must have been a 2 hour sermon, but I wish I could have been there to hear it in person. I experienced what he was talking about in spades. I've just never gotten the entire picture before. You're right, MM. I have never heard preaching like this. He spoke it like a surgeon.....exact, precise, and complete.

Here A LINK to a movie on him it's 109 min long http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlvK0EUn6u0&feature=player_detailpage

I'll have to read his other Sermon's and take a look at that library of his.

I have seen a few documentary on him, but this is the first time I've been able to read through a complete Sermon of his. I can see why his message of the gospel was so well received. I think he got into trouble with the establish religious group of the day over his preaching something about the people were leaving them because of his message.

It is estimated that in his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people,[1][2] Spurgeon was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years.[3] He was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and later had to leave the denomination.

In April 1854, after preaching three months on probation and just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 19, was called to the pastorate of London's famed New Park Street Chapel, Southwark (formerly pastored by the Particular Baptists Benjamin Keach, theologian John Gill and John Rippon). This was the largest Baptist congregation in London at the time, although it had dwindled in numbers for several years. Spurgeon found friends in London among his fellow pastors, such as William Garrett Lewis of Westbourne Grove Church, an older man who along with Spurgeon went on to found the London Baptist Association.

Within a few months of Spurgeon's arrival at Park Street, his ability as a preacher made him famous. The following year the first of his sermons in the "New Park Street Pulpit" was published. Spurgeon's sermons were published in printed form every week and had a high circulation. By the time of his death in 1892, he had preached nearly 3,600 sermons and published 49 volumes of commentaries, sayings, anecdotes, illustrations and devotions.

Immediately following his fame was criticism. The first attack in the press appeared in the Earthen Vessel in January 1855. His preaching, although not revolutionary in substance, was a plain-spoken and direct appeal to the people, using the Bible to provoke them to consider the teachings of Jesus Christ. Critical attacks from the media persisted throughout his life. The congregation quickly outgrew their building, and moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000. At 22, Spurgeon was the most popular preacher of the day.

I heard his name alot in my church, when I was able to go. I didn't realize he was English. He was the Billy Graham of the 19th Century. His preaching encompasses the depth of God's heart better than I've ever heard. By the 20th Century, people wanted it plain and simple, and Billy Graham provided that service. I admire Dr. Graham greatly. He is a true man of God and I know he will receive crowns upon crowns so that he can give them back to Jesus. He's a humble man, honest, gifted who millions have been saved through. He has allowed himself to be a strong vessel of God. But, this sermon from Mr. Spurgeon beats any sermon I've heard on salvation.

I am compelled to add a touch of levity on this. While Spurgeon was well-written, eloquent, and had a talent to move the crowds with his words, he was a hardline 5-point Calvinist. In fact, he's practically a "prophet" to the Calvinist movement.
Dont get me wrong, his written works and sermons were amazing at times, but it's necessary to apply the filter of truth.
That said, isn't that true of them all?

The sermon I read above, was off the charts. The movie was not 'an on the edge of your seat' type, but I honestly gleened nothing about Calvanism from these 2 things. I was going to do an indepth search and study today, if I had the time, AND I thank you for your post which made me do a rather quick search online. Rodeo, you are correct. Thank you for your post. I've read the 5-point line and IMHO, it is not based upon Scripture. Jesus died for all sin, not just some, and God doesn't pre-destine who will and who will not become a Christian. He does know who will and who won't accept Jesus as their Saviour, but He doesn't pick and choose. The sad fact is that Jesus still covered all sins and died for those unsaved anyway. It had to be a blanket salvation to cover everyone's complete sin history, otherwise God would have been prejudiced.

Scripture alone is the basis of Christianity, not extra writing to go along with it. C H Spurgeon was a very gifted man and was quoted from time to time in my church. However, my pastor ALWAYS said to not take the word of man....ALWAYS check it out with the Word of God. If it doesn't match, discard it. If I had a dollar for every time he would say to not just accept his word, check it for ourselves with the Word of God, I would be rather monetarily comfortable. :)

Born in Kelvedon, Essex, Spurgeon's conversion to Christianity came on 6 January 1850, at age 15. On his way to a scheduled appointment, a snow storm forced him to cut short his intended journey and to turn into a Primitive Methodist chapel in Colchester where God opened his heart to the salvation message. The text that moved him was Isaiah 45:22 – "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God, and there is none else." Later that year on 4 April 1850, he was admitted to the church at Newmarket.

He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day.

IMO: Charles Spurgeon preached on faith which is the massage of salvation though he was associated with a denomination, I have no doubt, he was opposed to theological and rules and laws of the church of that day. all I have to do is read his sermons his massage was on faith, a personal relation with the Lord.

1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding - With the Heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the Mouth Confession is made unto Salvation, Rom. 10:10. Search the Scriptures, John 5:39.

Goto the link and see for yourself they Confession of Faith understanding, based on the Bible with chapter and verse and with their explanations.

We believe that the Baptists are the original Christians. We did not commence our existence at the reformation, we were reformers before Luther and Calvin were born; we never came from the Church of Rome, for we were never in it, but we have an unbroken line up to the apostles themselves. We have always existed from the days of Christ, and our principles, sometimes veiled and forgotten, like a river which may travel under ground for a little season, have always had honest and holy adherents. Persecuted alike by Romanists and Protestants of almost every sect, yet there has never existed a Government holding Baptist principles which persecuted others; nor, I believe, any body of Baptists ever held it to be right to put the consciences of others under the control of man. We have ever been ready to suffer, as our martyrologies will prove, but we are not ready to accept any help from the State, to prostitute the purity of the Bride of Christ to any alliance with Government, and we will never make the Church, although the Queen, the despot over the consciences of men.

The sermon you posted is still the BEST sermon I've ever heard on what happens when you become a born again. It still amazes me!

By denomination, (and don't throw tomatoes) I am an Evangelical Fundamentalist Southern Baptist. (I bet that is no surprise to anyone!) I am first a child of King Jesus, which makes me a princess! IMHO, they believe the closest of what I believe the Holy Bible teaches. I'm not talking about church doctrine, I'm talking about when the rubber meets the road. The definition above wasn't taught by my preacher. This is my niche. Faith has shapened me and sanded me into who I am today. I'm not going to say it was always fun, because it wasn't. Believe it or not, I have had more fun being a Christian than I did when I wasn't. I don't miss those old ways and days.

The chain of command is God first, husband second, my son third, and sister plus the rest of my scattered family last. (Now my 4-legged children are in there too! You harm me and mine and you won't like me when I'm angry. I've always heard that the female is the most dangerous of all. Don't know if that is true, but I protect my own.)

So that is a little about me and why I love that sermon. Read it for yourself! :)
