Huge news day - US domestic only:

1) First local legislation anywhere in the US crafted in cooperation with vapers org. (?) passed in Davis Co. UT - congrats to Aaron Frazier and UT Vapers!

2) Simple minor sales bans (opposed by ANTZ because they create a separate category for vaping, instead of treating PVs as analogs) move forward in IA and OH; also introduced in LA.

3) Analog sales and profits are down for both Lorillard and Reynolds, but their PV sales skyrocket.

And now for the bad news ...

4)
ANTZ on the move - 5 former US Surgeon Gen'ls meet at Xavier U conf.: issue dire warnings about vaping; TN Dep't of Health issues an anti-vaping "public health advisory"; ALA rep.s pass moratorium on new vape stores in small MN town by citing stats on poison control center calls.

5) Williamson Co. TX passes indoor vaping ban.; ditto LB CA.

6) HI SB 2495 (internet sales ban, extends Clean Air Act) moves forward.

Coverage (US domestic only): NY; PA; OH; TN; MN; IA; TX; UT; CA; HI

Not covered: New La. simple minor ban bill (SB 12) - see legis forum.; RJ Reynolds profits down - already posted to media).

(NO La. US ABC affiliate) wgno.com/2014/02/11/e-cigarette-safety-concerns/#axzz2t7oGwevA [Although this story comes out of Nola, it's got nat'l significance. Five former US Surgeon Gen'ls come to conf. at Xavier U. to mark the 50th Anniv. of the US Surgeon Gen'ls report on smoking. Few kind words are provided to vapers - most of the zingers in the story deal with nicotine addiction and the minor gateway argument. For ex.: "Xavier faculty member, and former surgeon general, Dr Regina Benjamin, had a warning for people. 'I don’t tell a ...... addict to take a little ......,' Benjamin said. 'The e-cigarette is just another way to deliver nicotine.' Former surgeon general Dr. Jocelyn Elders added, 'I think we know we’re creating nicotine addicts,' regarding the e-cigarettes." Methinks the ANTZ will be all over this, issuing juicy press releases that will be snappedd up by cub reporters everywhere. Do any of these folks have conflicts (?).]

.com/midstate/index.ssf/2014/02/electronic_cigarettes_e-cigare.html [This is the third in a series of articles on vaping. Today it's the ANTZ' turn, and the junk was surprisingly limited to: (1) claims that nicotine can contribute to heart disease which were carefully qualified by the caveat that this is not the main heart disease issue assocated with analogs (a true statement as far as it goes); and (2) speculation about the gateway argument. On a junk scale of 1 to 10 - with SGlantz's blogs being a 10 - this is about a 2 or a 3. PA's simple minor sales ban hasn't yet passed the state sen.]
