2.1mm plug on PSU

After replacing the 2.1mm socket on one of my PT because it seemed to have a false contact it still would flash on and off with both my PSUs. After closer inpection I noticed that the positve hole in the PSU's 2.1mm plug was larger than the ones I had bought separately. I replaced the plug on the PSU with a new one and everything now is fine with all my PT's, but now my PSU won't pug into my charger because the center hole on the plug is to small. Checked all my other PSU and the same, they all have a larger center hole and the center post on the chargers and printers are larger. Is this normal that PTU have a slightly different than standard 2.1mm plug and socket when they are dedicated to chargers or printers.

The white is original on the PSU and the black a purchased plug. The white has a larger center hole.

Could be a 2.5mm plug, another common size.

Yeah, wall-wart plugs come in a variety of sizes. And even if they have the same OD, they may have a different ID.

Is the 2.1mm/ 2.5mm the diameter of the center post? If so that was my problem. The real pain was that I was replacing sockets on my PT's because the were having false contacts and all the time it was the plugs from the sources that were so big they made a loose fit.

Yeah. The OD is probably 5.5mm

That's what had me screwed up, they both have the same OD.

I learned about the differences in ID's the other way round -- "Why won't this plug in?"

All's well that ends well... At least now all my PT's are working great with solid connections. I was really doubting my soldering skills.. Had to wiggle the plugs to make contact and just assumed it was the sockets or cold solder. Even ordered a new Weller soldering station. lol
