It’s been a hard time getting here, but I’m two months smoke free! I wanted to share my story of what I went through looking for that perfect PV. Yes it DOES exist!

Just be warned it’s a long post! Sorry, I tried to cut it down!

I Smoked 1 ½ pad average for 25 years.

To quit have tried: The patch, the gum, the lozenge, chantix, zyban, tapering devices, hypnosis and will power, never made it more than a couple hours.

SMOKE51 TRIO

I first heard of e-cigarettes from my daughter who wanted one to be able to smoke inside. Headed to the mall and shelled out 180 for a kit. Tried hers and was simply amazed! I wanted one, but didn’t want to spend so much cash so went online….

A little note about the 51 trio besides it being outrageously expensive, hers died 3 times within the first month. Each time it’d die we took it back (a 30 minutes haul one way) and would get new parts. On top of that it only came with one atty which are $30 each; the juice is $60 for 30ml, and the cartridges (not cartomizers) were $16 for 5 pack! Which makes me realize, if I were to set up a kiosk at the mall and sell REAL e-cigarettes right next to theirs I’d make a killing, but more importantly I’d be helping people by saving them LOADS of money spent on garbage just to go right back to cigarettes

E-9

I found the e-9, knowing absolutely nothing about e-cigs I was really impressed that I could pick the cartomizer, battery, ash and led colors! I got black cartomizer, white battery, transparent tip and of course a pink led. And a kit with 2 batteries and 5 cartomizers was only like $30 I thought I’d hit gold.

The battery life last about 20 minutes fully charged. The cartomizers only produced good vapor and taste for the first 5 or 6 draws… Back to the internet….

FOUND ECF! Thank goodness!

THE RIVA

After days of reading, literally hours on end at ecf and asking a ton of questions I decided to go with the 510 since I was turned off cartomizers from my experience with the e-9 (and still not realizing different manufactures’ have different cartos).

Everyone’s advice on my 510? Don’t get the regular 510 batteries, go with ego or Riva style. I won’t care after a couple of days whether it feels like a cig or not but I will care about battery life…Well people here seem to know what they’re talking about (and they do) so off to Liberty Flights to order my Riva kit….

I got it on a Friday, as of that Saturday about two months ago I’ve not had a single cigarette 
I was completely in love with it and did not have a problem not having a cigarette at all! However, It would seem every 7 puffs or so I had to top of the cartridges because the top was dry, even though the bottom of the poly-fil was still wet!

UGGHH Tons of more reading followed by trying the PTB method of filling, then blue foam, then fluval, then the plug, the spring and plug and I don’t know how many others! Nothing worked for more than 15 puffs which was like 2 cigarettes worth for me. I had to bring 5 cartridges just going out for a couple of hours since I couldn’t mess with them while driving or working.

THE EGO-T

So, there I was back on ecf pouring through the threads in search of an answer meanwhile I just used a 510 atty and dripped…. Then I saw a thread about the ego-t about 2 weeks before it became available in the US. I couldn’t wait; this was the answer to my vaping prayers! As soon as it was available I got a tank atty and a 5pack of tanks.

A couple of days before it showed up, I went through the stage that many are familiar with; I lost my ability to taste. I had been using banana and apple diy at 20%, but suddenly they had absolutely no taste. I figured it was my taste buds acting funny and changing and didn’t think too much of it…

Got my tank setup and LOVED it. Clouds of vapor, no refilling, just pop on a tank and go! To fill I just popped the cap and filled it up. Finally I felt like my journey was complete. I’d order a ton of attys (paranoia about bans) and be all set for a long long time.

It was great …… for about 17 days, and then the atty died. No problem I thought, I had just ordered 3 new attys…. Two of them died within a week each and the other lasted 11 days. The wicks were just where they were supposed to be, I’ve seen the videos, I was using 80% pg so no problem there, only clear juice… But wait, I also realized at this point that I STILL can’t taste my juice… So I dig out a 510 atty, drip, BOOM tons of flavor… I didn’t get that with one single tank atty…. Dealing with no flavor wasn’t number 1 on my list though and the tank atty is the ONLY thing I could use when I left the house. I really couldn’t leave the house using cartridges because they wouldn’t last.

KR8’s

Bloog’s MaxxFusion:

On top of being fed up with cartridges and tanks, I’m JUST NOW starting to crave a cigarette, BIG
TIME. I felt like I hadn’t had one in… well in 2 months lol. I knew that the fat battery was the reason. While I did like the battery life I missed smoking!!! I knew that I needed a slim battery against all the others advice that I wouldn’t care I really did. (And after getting a slim battery my craving went right away, I feel like I’m smoking again and enjoying it!)

I still to this day can’t figure out why everyone recommends the big batteries when there are pcc’s? I have no problem opening my case taking out a fresh battery and putting the old one back in. Kind of similar to taking a cigarette out of a pack no? So why do I read comments aimed at newbie’s like “the battery life is more important, you won’t care about the size” as if they have to choose battery or size when in reality a pcc gives you the best of both worlds!

Back to ecf, of course to do some research… I find a lot of talk about cartomizers and people seem to love them over all else it seem except for dripping. (And I’m talking on average; I know there are haters…) After a lot of reading I see that all cartomizers are not created equal and like the e-9 battery that was of poor quality so were the cartomizers. I read a ton about the BMF being the newest, best KR808 cartomizer technology. Off I go….

Bloog was out of blank cartomizers so I went with the “red” flavor, got a couple of batteries and the mini pcc. WOW. I put on a cartomizer and took one puff, extremely short & light puff and yet the cloud of vapor was unlike any I had seen, yes even dripping. I know that is an argument waiting to happen but really the cloud of vapor I get with the MF cartomizers is AT LEAST equal to and usually better than the one I get dripping on a 510 atty with an ego battery. BUT gross! This red flavor is probably one of the most horrible tastes I’ve ever experienced. It tastes like really bad/off peanuts, and I like peanuts! Let me say, taste is subjective some people love this flavor, gag 

I decided to follow a video on cleaning cartomizers so I could fill them with my own juice. Unfortunately I found a video where the person simply plunged out the water with an altered syringe, filled and vaped. I did wait at least a day for them to dry, but it still wasn’t enough. I filled it with my favorite juice and got an even worse flavor! It was an extremely hot and wet vapor. I concluded in my ignorance that these cartomizers are horrible! Maybe some people like hot/wet vapor but not me, it was like inhaling steam, which is essentially what I was doing but didn’t know that.

I was not impressed with their cartomizers or their pcc which I found to feel extremely cheap and just two weeks in I already have had to tape the battery cover on so back on the hunt…. BUT after hearing about drying cartomizers in the often, I re-washed, oven dried at 170 for about 2 hours, let sit overnight and then filled. BINGO, smooth clouds of vapor no more steam! The vapor I’m getting with a light quick draw just like a cigarette is amazing!

Vapor4Life

I’m promised TONS of vapor with their WOW vapor cartomizers so I dive in… I get a shorty battery, the pcc and 5 packs of different flavored and blank cartomizers.

I get the battery in and it’s defective  I post in their forum and am told by many people how to “fix” the battery. First it wouldn’t screw onto the cartomizers (well it wouldn’t on 8 of the 10 I tired!) and that’s what the fix was for. I was told to sand down the threads just a bit. Did it and sure enough it fit now! However, the battery cut off after 2 seconds so I still couldn’t use it, but was presented with another “fix” to raise the battery post to make better contact. I did that as well but without the same results, unfortunately it didn’t help. I tried their cartomizers on my bloog batteries, hardly any vapor either with the cool carts, wow carts, prefilled or blank. Still waiting on my replacement battery to arrive (this just happened) so I don’t really know how they’ll stack up….

The v4l pcc on the other hand is great! I’ve been charging my bloogs on it all day. It feels nice, durable and doesn’t look or feel cheap like the MF one did. And is an awesome lime green 

I did get a taste of the WOW coffee cartomizers even though it didn’t have vapor, I must say it’s the best coffee flavor I’ve found! A friend who I just happened to tell about my experience had used wow juices before and still had a few including coffee! She brought me WOW coffee juice about an hour ago. I’m in coffee heaven!

So what’s the perfect PV?

It’s different for everyone! And mine is a combination of products from 5 different vendors! I have found it to be true that there is no perfect pv or perfect juice for everyone, but everyone finds their own combo that works for them SOOOO if you’re a new convert please please don’t give up if your first (or second or third) choices don’t work for you. 2 Months in, about 1,000 spent in pvs, liquids and diy juice supplies and NOW I’ve finally found MY perfect vape. I almost did more than once, but we’ve all been there and all found our personal perfect setup! Stick to it, it may take time and money but realize even after spending 1000 on all this stuff by then end of this year I’ll still have saved over 2200 from buying cigarettes!

Plus I’m about to list all my 510s, egos, Rivas, and juices for sale so hopefully I’ll get a small portion of that back!

SO, my perfect vape:
• Bloog MaxxFusion battery
• Bloog MF blank cartomizer
• Vapor4Life pcc
• nhaler drip tip
• Tasty Vapor café macchiato, diy peppermint and (now) WOW coffee juice
• A usb car charger that I got at walmart for $4.95
• Wall usb adapter for pcc from my riva kit

Suppliers

I bought from the following vendors and this is my personal experience and feeling on each:

Cignot: Cignot gets a 10 all the way around! The prices are decent, the products are good and customer service is unbeatable. Every order I had shipped the same day, or next morning if the order was placed at night. One of my ego passthrus stopped working a couple weeks in and they sent me a tracking number for a new one being sent to me 7 minutes after I reported the problem! And they were one of the few companies I’ve dealt with that had the decency to include as postage paid return envelope for the defective product.

Liberty Flights: Gets an 8. Prices are very very good, the products are good and I had no complaints with customer service. My orders usually shipped within 2 to 3 days after ordering. I never had to contact them so don’t know how that would have gone?

MyFreedomSmokes.com: Gets a 6. Prices are unbeatable using their coupon codes. I can get 510 batteries for 8 bucks, cartomizers for around a dollar each and ego mega cartomizers for 1.77! I can’t remember if they shipped within 24 hours or 48 but it I had my package within 5 days of my order. The 510 cartomizers were junk though. No taste on the banana or grape, the insides were all messed up some not even having a hole at all that you could find (the one going down the center of the polyfil) and most I’ve tried just don’t produce hardly any vapor or flavor. I didn’t contact them for return since its cartomizers and you can’t return them so being stuck with $25 worth of 510 cartomizers I can’t/won’t use brought their score way down since low prices mean nothing when the product doesn’t work.

Bloog.com: This one is a little different, they get a 10+ for 2 of their products (battery and cartomizer) but the pcc is a fail in my eyes, and you can’t not find crap in stock. Over the past month you will hear “should be in by beginning of next week, just got to count….” Blah blah blah and two weeks later still nothing. Also I’ve been in the threads for a while and I’ve never seen another sub-forum with as many posts about customer complaints /questions being ignored. Some people are getting NO response while others (myself included) have had no issues reaching cs. IF they get their customer service and stock issues fixed they’d be a 10 but because of those issues (mostly stock for me) I’d give them a 7 

Vapor4life: I can’t comment on the performance of their product since I’ve been unable to use them, which speaks for itself in a way! It seems pretty common to get defective batteries there. For example while I didn’t mind sanding the battery down, I don’t feel I should have to!? Which to their credit you don’t, they will send out a replacement asap but it shouldn’t be a common issue as far as I’m concerned. If your batteries are regularly not fitting cartomizers and have to be sanded, you fix the problem at the factory, no? BUT as far as customer service they are in the cignot league as far as I’m concerned, simply outstanding, they mailed a replacement battery the same day I contacted them and they have been NOTHING but helpful. Well maybe a step below cignot if they don’t’ include a postage paid package to send back their product. AND, the wow juice is unreal! I know I’ve only tried coffee so far but I’m in love lol.

I’ve also bought juice from Kick Bass Vapor, Tasty Vapor, and Joogler Juice. All suppliers were awesome and no issues at all, great cs and speedy shipping.

For diy e-liquid supplies I’ve only used onestopdiyshop and see no need to even look elsewhere. They always have what I want in stock, offer everything I need, are SUPER quick at shipping, great prices and they are great people too!

Oh, I have used nicvape for the nic juice. While onestop does have it, I use 100mg which they don’t carry. Nicvape also an A+ seller, quick shipping and great customer service.

I know this is a long post to read! I just wanted to show that the road may be very bumpy for new vapors but you’ll get there with trial and error, it just may take a lot of experimenting in some cases especially for picky people like me. And also I wanted to share my story because it really has been that long of a trip here and I’m just sooo thrilled that each and every piece I use I’m now in love with and I can say I’m finally done! :)\

I just read this and saw all the spelling and grammer errors! UGH but i'm at work and I will fix it later, makes it difficult to read!

I appreciate your thoroughness. I had a very similar experience of trying all sorts of vendors. I ended up with a collection of parts I love from different places. I think I finally found my favorites and replacements will be cheap and easy. All of the vendors have been timely and very helpful, but some of the products were just poorly crafted junk to begin with.

Thanks for the post! I was getting tired of reading things like, "the very day I got my first pv, I was in love with vaping and have hated cigarettes ever since!"

I started vaping in December 2010 and I still want to smoke, some days more than others, I just keep throwing money and time into vaping... keeps me too broke to smoke! lol! I love not smoking. I feel so much cleaner. I hate that I need to vape as much as I do, just to keep away from cigarettes. I chain vape, when I was never a chain smoker...

I also found I prefer small batts to the Riva/ego type. But I use pretty much everything out there, to keep the craving (somewhat) sedated. I wish I was one of those, "I love vaping way more than I ever loved smoking!!" type of people, but I'm not. :(

Great post! I think this emphasizes how there is not really a "one size fits all" solution for everyone. I am still fairly new, in facts I am still weening myself off my last couple of cigs a day. Went from ~35ish a day to 5 overnight - I have pretty much cut 1 more each week.

I spend a fair amount of time reading in the New Member forum, and to be honest, I have a problem with many people saying "Don't bother with a cigarette size pv - you'll hate it" or "just get an Ego style or you will be sorry". I don't have an Ego, and I am not sorry. Granted, the Ego style pvs may be the perfect fit as a first pv for many people - especially those that could only afford 1 pv and couldn't deal with switching batteries a lot. I started with a rn4081, and I still like it a lot and I still use it all the time especially when I am out and about. I do also have a kr808d-1 that I like and a variable voltage mod, an Infinity from Notcigs, which is a wonderful pv, but I still don't want to carry it around with me all the time.

I think a high quality "mini", like a good kr808d-1 with a pcc, is a great place to start for many people, especially those who think they would be more comfortable with a cigarette size pv. If they want to experiment or try something with some more OOMPH, get an Ego type later, or better yet a real battery mod.

My opinion is that if someone wants a cigarette size pv then that is what they should get, as long as they understand the pros and cons. Some people would rather emulate the style of Audrey Hepburn than Cheech and Chong - and that is their choice.

Dawn, I think you made a good point in stating what finally satisfied your needs.

OTOH, I think that battery issues are highly personal. After all, a battery supplies voltage to the atomizer to heat the coil. All compatible batteries produce the same voltage (for a particular model ecig) and the varying factor is current capability in ampere hours (life between charges). That said, all that is left is look, feel, vapor, taste, and appearance. Some men won't smoke a cigarette with a white filter because they think white filters are for ladies (and vice versa). Some hate menthol and others won't have anything to do with non-menthol.

The PCC is a great device for those who like slim batteries. It's also a pain for some people who get tired of chargings batteries every hour and a half and finally grab an EGO. Their PCC stays in the drawer forever after that. $35 down the drain for an experiential piece of knowledge! These are the people who tout the advantages of the EGO (which, by the way can use high drain atomizers that the small batts can't).

The point to be taken from all of this is that there are good and bad models of ecigs and there are preferences aside from performance in vapor and taste, such as look and feel and battery life. A good ecig can be ugly and unwieldy but the user loves it for its taste. A beautifully crafted ecig can make some people fall in love regardless of the fact that it has weak flavor production, just vapor. Your journey has proven some of that and added even more details that will be useful for those picking out the one they will stick with. Hardware battles can make the best ecig find itself in the trash, while those who did not have those issues will walk around praising its merits. There should be a check list for new users that lists things like portability, battery life, taste, vapor, cost, compatibility with options, and appearance.

Thanks for all your effort in bringing forth this story!

I would like to give your setup a try. For some reason everything you said applied to me. I wanted to quit and a lot of people said Ego-T or GoGo so I bought it and loooooove my GoGo but after 3 weeks I start to feel this annoying need to smoke a cig. Bought a throw away e-cig in cig shape from the gas station and it helps to ease my urge a lot. So now I am about to buy everything you have in your setup. I just had one or two questions that you may be able to answer.

A. Is this the right PCC? Vapor King Portable Charging Case from vapor4life
B. Can I use that PCC (in case thats the right one) for all bloog mf bats? 65mm 75mm and 102mm bats will they fit in the pcc?
c. I am unsure about which drip tip will will fit the bloog there are so many on nhaler. Could you maybe tell me the size ?
D. can you refill the empty cartos?

Thanks for the help and the great posting.

Ever try using cartos with the Riva. I agree, cartridges are terrible.
