Hello all, my name is Pat and I live in Oregon, I have chewed smokeless tobacco since I was 15 ( I am 37 now ) I also use to smoke about a pack a day but haven't had a cig in about 15 years. I can chew up to 2 to 3 cans a week depending on the brand/flavor.

I'm tired of dipping, the pain in my gums, bleeding every now and then, the occasional sore that pops up and the fact it just isnt healthy. I started reading success stories from other dippers who switched to vaping and decided I would give it a shot.

I have a few co-workers who vape and the information they were giving me and from me trying to make heads and tails was just pure overload, so, I just decided to pop into a vape shop and let them know I dont know a thing about vapes and what my goals were.

On 9-14-17, I went to a local mom and pop vape shop, spoke with the owners and even though they were busy and tons of younger college kids kept flooding in, they took the time to go over the different rigs and juices. The owner even cleaned her own device for me and let me pop the vape cherry.

I informed them that I did not want a cheap rig, or one with a built in battery and would feel more comfortable buying something I could grow into.

I left the shop with a smok Alien 220W TC and a 32ML bottle of Dragon Fever juice. After I got home, and made friends with rig, it was game over. I couldn't put it down! My biggest fear was going to be that the void of having something in my lip would drive me insane, but it hasnt! next fear was sitting at my desk all day with no dip in, no biggie, just pop outside and take a few rips.

I did buy a can of chew just incase but sice 9-14-17 till today, I have only dipped 4 times and this is coming from someone who always had a dip in unless I was eating or sleeping.

Now that I know my rig, I think I shorted myself on the nic level, while in the shop, I had them start me at 12 but honestly I think the settings on the Smok needed to be adjusted. I just finished the 32ML of Dragon Fever which was a level 6 nic and cracked open a 32ML bottle of level 8 nic Root Beer.

I currently vape at 60W with the Smok and am loving it, it is my goal to kick dipping entirely.

This is awesome to hear. Sounds like you found a quality shop to get you going - far too many of these greetings start out with device problems requiring troubleshooting and confusion thanks to lazy or just ignorant store owners.

Keep your crutch handy, I know I did. Had a pack with me for three weeks when I picked up my first vape and I tossed it out half full and stale. I was a pack of 20s a day.

A common recommendation will be to.consider a cheap (or not so cheap, as we will be happy to steer you) backup just in case. I never found this necessary, but I got lucky with my first devices. Backup batteries, though will be a must.

Great to hear the success story so far, welcome!

Thanks all, yes! I have learned backup batteries are going to be a MUST! I have had to charge mine a few times now which I dont mind but will be getting spares. The kit did come with another coil, which I will also be getting more unless I decide to buy another tank, which I been looking at the Smok TFV12 Beast as I woudnt mind a little more capacity, but I will be sticking with what I got for now at least.

I really want to concentrate on finding the right nic level. It was really hard trying to determine where to start and the shop owners and younger crowd watching me in the shop all said it I would need to play around with it. I did the 12mg but think I had the settings all cranked up and it was very harsh on the TH so I decided to half it, but I think I should have stuck with the 12mg and think I will be going back for some more now that I know where my rig settings get me.

Happy vaping all.

Yeah, 12mg at high wattage would rip my throat apart. If you prefer higher watt vaping then you'll want to stick to lower nicotine. Not just because it's more tolerable, but vaping at high power does seem to satisfy at much lower levels. I was still at 18mg when I switched from my little starter kit and instantly dropped to 3mg with no real noticeable difference in satisfaction. Not all juices are created equal when it comes to throathit, however, so some experimentation will be required.

I use a 3mg juice with a great smack to the back of the throat, but I generally have to resort to mentholated flavours when I branch out just to compensate for the smoothness.

Congrats. You were lucky. So was I. I too was fortunate enough to find a vape shop that cared, and basically got me on the right track.

Dipping is some POWERFUL STRONG stuff. It may take maybe 18-24mg/ml nic to give you "that buzz". I wouldn't recommend those levels for subohm or high watts or even for most people regardless of how they vape. But you may need it and can handle it ... to start the day off ... or for a while anyway. Welcome !!!

You'll prolly know when you get too much nic. Kinda the same symptoms when too much dip, but be aware that nic overload is no fun.

Uncap your juice bottle for several hours (breathing your juice). Helps smooth it out. Don't leave it uncapped all day or overnight, flavor will start to evaporate.

Awesome, thanks for the tip, if I go up to a 12mg I'll give it a shot! I think it was more user error and not knowing my rig well enough and I didn't want to ruin the experience and get discouraged.

I'm very fortunate the local shop i have in town did care and wanted to make sure I was comfortable with what I was getting, they had more expensive setups they could have pushed on me but didn't I picked up the Smok Alien 220W TC , came with both batteries, extra coil, pyrex tank globe, and seals + a 32ML bottle of my choice of juice all for $95.

I've checked with local shops and it seems like 12mg is the highest nic they all do, is that common? do I need to go to an online distributor to get higher nics? Hell, I've seen a local add on craigslist for a guy that makes his own juice and has good reviews and will make any nic level needed, $30-40 for a 120ML bottle.

I hear you on the nic overload, I havent had one in ages but do remember the feeling. I'm still trying to determine if I'm going through so much juice right now because the nic level isnt high enough or i'm just enjoying it too much haha.

I was a pack and a half a day Marlboro Reds smoker for just about 45 years. I vape either 12 or 18mg/ml depending on mood. But I vape at low wattage, don't do subohm or TC at all. Oh, and I vape non-flavored juice. But what works for me isn't what works for everyone of course. You'll just have to try things and find your way. Surely the local shop has a vape bar where you could try some 12mg/ml ... or pick up a sample. Of course whatever they don't have you'd like to try, you can find online.

Keep in mind you do not absorb nic from vaping same as tobacco. It's slower with vape, there is no additives to speed the process. You will chain vape until your body adjusts. Get a bottle of 18mg and try it out. Wouldn't go higher. Vaping just makes it easier, not painless.

Sometimes you'll see 12mg/ml expressed as "1.2" and 18mg/ml expressed as "1.8" ... 24mg/ml as 2.4. Heck I think even our Walmart has juice in those strengths ... 1.2 and 1.8 and maybe 2.4, though I've never tried it I've seen it on their smoke racks beside the cigs and dip and stuff.
